Adam has been writing in the entertainment news space for over a decade. Beginning his career of covering film and TV at CinemaBlend, he has also appeared on The Flash Podcast and done several radio spots.

Netflix has unveiled the release date and first images from Cameron Diaz’s new action movie.

After an 11-year hiatus, Diaz returned to acting in 2025 with the fittingly-titled Back in Action, which re-teamed her with her Annie co-star Jamie Foxx. The actor is keeping her partnership with Netflix going with Bad Day, which was announced last July. Now it’s been officially confirmed that Diaz’s latest action genre outing will arrive at the end of the year.

Bad Day hits Netflix on Friday, December 11. That’s the same month that fellow originals Ray Gunn and The Adventures of Cliff Booth will be released on the platform. That information was accompanied by the below selection of stills from the Bad Day production, where Diaz can be seen among co-stars like Modern Family’s Ed O’Neill, The Color Purple’s Danielle Brooks, and Please Don’t Destroy’s John Higgins. The latter two play police detectives, and O'Neill plays a man who takes the wheel of a bus Diaz's character is on.

Directed by Jury Duty’s Jake Szymanski, and written by Office Christmas Party’s Laura Solon, the "mom-com" Bad Day sees Diaz playing, as described in the official synopsis, “playing a single mom fighting to keep one little promise to her daughter while navigating the absolute worst day of her life.” The rest of Bad Day's cast includes Rhenzy Feliz, Mark Duplass, Jessica Belkin, Rob Corddry, Ayden Mayeri, Ben Schwartz, Retta, Emma Pearson, P.J. Byrne, Sherry Cola, Edi Patterson, and Beck Bennett.

Prior to Back in Action, Diaz paused her acting career after starring in the Annie remake, The Other Woman, and Sex Tape, all of which were released in 2014. During the hiatus, she released her book The Longevity Book: The Science of Aging, the Biology of Strength, and the Privilege of Time in 2016, and started her own wine brand four years later, among other professional endeavors. Diaz also appeared as a guest judge on the first episode of RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars 7 in 2022, the same year that Back in Action was announced.

Bad Day’s release follows eight months after the release of her latest movie, Apple TV’s Outcome, which co-starred Keanu Reeves and Jonah Hill. However, the black comedy, which Hill also directed and co-wrote, earned primarily negative critical reception. ScreenRant’s Outcome review described the movie as an “awkward jumble of tones” that “shoots for greatness and misses, despite having sections that show us the true potential of this material.”

Diaz made her acting debut in 1994 with The Mask, where she played Tina Carlyle, the love interest of Jim Carrey’s Stanley Ipkiss. From there, she became one of Hollywood’s shining stars, and some of Diaz’s best movies include My Best Friend’s Wedding, There’s Something About Mary, Being John Malkovich, the Charlie’s Angels duology, and Gangs of New York. Additionally, she hosted Saturday Night Live four times between 1998 and 2014, as well as produced the short-lived TV series Bad Teacher, which was based on her same-named comedy from 2011.

Once again, Netflix subscribers will be able to stream Bad Day starting on December 11. Looking further into the future, Diaz will reprise Princess Fiona in Shrek 5, which is due out in theaters on June 30, 2027.
