Call of Duty: Warzone Is Adding a Weather System This Week

Call of Duty: Warzone is adding a weather system that will make every match feel a bit different.

Later this week, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4's Season 1 update will be released, and with it will come big changes to Warzone. Developer Raven Software is adding a bunch of content that matches the mechanics and tone Modern Warfare 4 brought to the franchise last month. One of the biggest things that's coming to Warzone is a new weather system, which means the map might have rain, wind, or other effects when you drop in.

It sounds like the weather will be determined before you ever load into the match, so don't expect weather cycles as you'd see in a game like Grand Theft Auto. The goal is to make it so Warzone matches feel different every time you play, as the battle royale's maps have been pretty stagnant for the last six years. The weather never changes, which can eventually make the maps feel a bit boring. However, this may make the game feel consistently interesting, and something like rain may have slight changes to gameplay. It could impact visibility, make your footsteps louder as they splash in puddles, and more.

Earlier this fall, Wardogs also added weather to multiplayer matches, which had some big changes for the gameplay. It's a worthy change to Call of Duty's battle royale and one that fans have wanted to see for some time. Fans have also wanted to see a day/night cycle as well, which could make something like night-vision goggles a meaningful piece of gear. NVGs are part of the game's DMZ extraction mode, though they're primarily used for enclosed facilities that have no power.

The new Call of Duty: Warzone update will launch with two new maps on November 6 as part of Modern Warfare 4 Season 1.
