In over three years at Collider, senior author Jake has now penned over 2500 articles covering a wide range of TV and film for the resources, lists, utilities, news, and interview teams. Alongside interviewing stars such as Selin Hizli, Rose Ayling-Ellis, Harlan Coben, and Chelsea Peretti, Jake was lucky enough to visit the set of Aardman and Netflix's Wallace and Gromit: A Vengeance Most Fowl in 2024, getting the chance to chat with four-time Academy Award winner Nick Park and Merlin Crossingham. Jake has also worked for other publications, including Agents of Fandom.
The 98th Academy Awards creeps closer, with the ceremony taking place on March 15, 2026. Already, this year's event is shaping up to be one of the most gripping in history, as a collection of astonishing projects fight to leave with gold. Having officially broken the record for most Oscar nominations — bypassing previous record holders All About Eve, Titanic, and La La Land — Ryan Coogler's incredible Sinners is one of the standout favorites.
Sinners star Michael B. Jordan is seemingly going head-to-head with Timothée Chalamet for the Best Actor prize, with the bookies favoring the latter's electric performance despite Jordan playing not one but two characters. However, if Sinners were to lose out on this prize, there are many more it seems destined to win, including in the Best Casting category, which is a new addition this year. As the weeks turn to days in the final straight before the March 15 ceremony, it is interesting to follow the popularity of the favorites with the general public.
With that in mind, it is worth noting that Sinners is, at the time of writing, one of the ten most-streamed movies on Prime Video in the U.S. The only Academy Award nominee in the charts, other titles currently in the top ten include the brand-new "dad" movie The Wrecking Crew, Guy Ritchie and Jason Statham's Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre, the John Cena and Idris Elba-led buddy-cop action thriller Heads of State, and more. A synopsis for Sinners reads:
"Trying to leave their troubled lives behind, twin brothers (Michael B. Jordan) return to their hometown to start again, only to discover that an even greater evil is waiting to welcome them back."
'Sinners' Was a Huge Box Office Hit
Image via Warner Bros. PicturesAt a time when faith in financial success seems to be placed solely in reboots and sequels, to see an original idea such as Sinners become a box office smash is affirming. Against a hefty budget of $90 million, Sinners returned a global haul of $369 million, split between $280 million in domestic revenue and a further $89 million from overseas markets. The movie was one of the 20 highest-grossing movies of 2025 worldwide, and is currently the fifth-highest-grossing horror movie of all time.
Sinners is streaming on Prime Video. Stay tuned to Collider for all the latest streaming stories.
