Brooklyn Bedding has a huge variety of mattresses it makes out of its massive factory in Phoenix, Arizona. I was lucky enough to tour and see how its beds were made last spring. The Brooklyn Bedding Aurora mattress is a step up from the Signature mattress, which is one of the absolute best values. The Aurora Luxe is an improvement over the Signature because of its powerful cooling cover made of “GlacioTex” which will help you sleep much cooler when compared to the average mattress.
This is one of my personal favorite mattresses for its comfort, firmness options and overall quality. On top of that, the cooling features are an incredible bonus for hot sleepers looking for an extra edge to get better sleep.
First impressions of the Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe
The current version of the Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe is the second model we’ve had through our testing space. The previous model was nearly identical to the Signature mattress but with a cooling cover.
When we first unboxed the current version of the Aurora Luxe I was immediately impressed with the new pillow-top style design that gives it a luxurious and inviting look with new side handles that makes the mattress easier to move around. The bed also has more foam layers than the old model which helps give it a near universally comfortable feel.
The bed didn’t have much of an “off-gassing” process which is typical for most hybrid beds that use coils and it took only a full day for it to be fully inflated and firmed up and any odors disappeared after a couple of hours.
Overall my first impression was Brooklyn Bedding made a good bed into a great bed and this Aurora Luxe is a staple on many of our mattress best lists.

Is the Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe mattress right for you?
For anyone looking for a comfortable, hybrid bed that also has real cooling features I think the Aurora Luxe is one of the best options we’ve ever tested. You can also pick and choose your firmness profile which means it will work for all sleepers and body types.
For people who don’t sleep hot though, I don’t think this mattress is worth the extra cost over a bed like the Signature. The cooling features on the Aurora Luxe are strong and you will be paying a bit of a premium for it so if that’s not something you want in your next mattress you can save a few hundred dollars.
For hot sleepers though, I can strongly recommend the Aurora Luxe for how well it will help you sleep cooler.
Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe mattress firmness and feel
Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe feel
The feel of the Brooklyn Aurora Luxe is very similar to the Signature mattress, which is an accommodating, neutral hybrid feel. Mattress feel can be thought about as a spectrum with two poles: one end is a super responsive, buoyant and bouncy sensation, and the other end is a dense, slow-to-respond, sink-in type of sensation, with lots of room in between.
I was able to take a tour of the factory where Brooklyn Bedding makes all its beds and learn about how mattress foams get made and foam chemists are able to precisely control the characteristics of how the foam feels and the foams used in this mattress are designed to be middle of the road between bounce, softness and low viscosity.
The feel of the Aurora Luxe is right down the middle and everyone on our team finds it very comfortable and we are confident you will too. If you have a strong preference for a dense memory foam or a buoyant latex foam then I would seek out a mattress like that -- but if you get the Aurora Luxe I would be shocked if you found it uncomfortable.
Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe firmness and sleeper types
The Aurora Luxe mattress comes in three different firmness options, a soft, medium and a firm. Beds in this price range like the Leesa Sapira Chill Hybrid, the WinkBed mattress and the Saatva often have multiple firmness options which I think is an excellent feature that cheaper beds generally don’t have.
We found in testing that the firmness models do line up with the brand’s designations with the soft model being somewhere between a 3-5 out of 10, the medium model being a 4-6 out of 10 and the firm model being a 6-8 out 10.
Firmness is a subjective factor because how firm or soft a mattress feels has a lot to do with a person’s body weight, with heavier people generally feeling beds to be softer than a lightweight person and vice versa.
One issue with the Aurora Luxe is that heavier back sleepers might not be satisfied with the firmness level of the firm model, and those folks might be better served with a bed like the Plank Firm Luxe.
We did test the medium model of the Aurora Luxe on our new Mattress Smasher 9000 which helps us get more objective firmness scores and it gave us a 4.9 out of 10 which is as close to a perfect medium as you can get.
Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe mattress construction
The construction of the Signature mattress begins with a super thin layer of dense support that is only there to provide the eight-inch-thick layer of individually wrapped coils a stable foundation.
Individually wrapped coils are a bit different from traditional innersprings and have almost completely replaced innersprings in mattress design. They provide the same level of bounce and support as innersprings but behave independently and do a much better job at absorbing cross-mattress motion.
I was also able to see how these coils get made at the 3Z mattress factory, and another benefit of using wrapped coils is that a thicker gauge coil can be used in different areas to provide zoned support and reinforced edge support.
Above the coil layer is a two-inch-layer of “supreme response” comfort foam which provides a comfortable buffer between the additional foam above it and the coils below it.
The main comfort layer of the basel model Aurora Luxe is a one-and-a-half-inch thick layer of “copperflex” foam which is a neutral, responsive foam made in the 3Z mattress factory.
Recently, Brooklyn Bedding added an optional “Cloud Pillow-Top” to the Aurora Luxe, which adds two more inches of comfort foam to give it a more luxurious, plush feel.
This feature is available at an extra cost ($400 for a queen-sized), and after testing both models, I don’t think the upgrade is necessary for nightly comfort, but it is very nice and likely worth it for sleepers looking for extra luxury.
Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe performance
Edge support
Edge support refers to how well the edge of the mattress holds up under pressure. Beds with poor edge support make you feel like you’re going to roll off the mattress near the outer edge, and it is easy to sleep near the perimeter of the edge if you are sharing a bed with a partner or pets.
The coils along the perimeter of the Aurora Luxe use an extra thick gauge of steel designed to improve the edge support and it does that very effectively. We didn’t notice any “roll-off” sensation on this mattress and I felt supported even putting my entire body weight along the edge which is great news for couples.
Motion isolation
Motion isolation refers to how well the bed deadens the impact of movement on the mattress -- if you are a light sleeper who shares a mattress with someone who tosses and turns a lot, having good motion isolation is especially important.
This is only average to slightly above average on the Aurora Luxe. Coil beds generally perform worse in this category when compared to foam mattresses, and since the foams that this bed uses are designed to move with you while you sleep, it doesn’t absorb cross-mattress motion as much as a memory foam hybrid would.
The “Cloud Pillow-Top” version of the Aurora Luxe does have slightly better motion isolation than the base model because there is more foam above the bouncy coils so that upgrade might be extra worth it for light sleepers.
Temperature regulation
Temperature regulation is where the Aurora Luxe really shines, as it is one of the best cooling mattresses we’ve ever tested. The cover uses a material the brand calls “GlacioTex,” which is very cool to the touch and is felt through a thick fitted sheet.
After sleeping on the Tempur-Pedic Pro Breeze mattress for almost a year, which has comparable cooling features, it makes a big difference sleeping better in the summer months. It won’t necessarily keep you cool in a house with no AC, but it makes a difference and people who sleep hot will appreciate the cooling factor of the Aurora Luxe mattress.
There are comparable mattresses like the Tempur-Pedic Breeze line, and the Helix Elite line, but I haven’t tested a bed that I think sleeps cooler than the Aurora Luxe.
Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe mattress pricing
38x75 | $665 |
38x80 | $832 |
54x75 | $999 |
60x80 | $1,865 |
76x80 | $2,265 |
72x84 | $2,265 |
The Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe mattress is on the edge of luxury-level pricing, but when you factor in discounts, the base model is actually fairly affordable. After a discount, a base model Aurora Luxe in a queen-size usually goes for about $1,400, which is less than other luxurious hybrids like the WinkBed, Saatva Classic and Nolah Evolution. If you get the optional Cloud Pillow Top, the cost will increase by $300 to $400.
Brooklyn Bedding will sometimes have larger than usual discounts around major holidays, so be sure to check out our mattress deals page for the latest discounts.
Brooklyn Bedding mattress policies
Free shipping
Like most online mattresses, this will ship right to your door at no extra cost inside of a large box (as long as you live in the contiguous United States). If you live in Canada, you can still get it shipped to you, but there will be an additional cost involved depending on where you live.
Unboxing a mattress usually only takes a few minutes, and we recommend unboxing it with a friend to make the process go more smoothly.
I have unboxed many beds by myself, and while it's doable, it is much more difficult.
120-night trial
All Brooklyn Bedding mattresses come with a slightly longer than average trial period of 120 nights in comparison to the usual standard of 100 nights. So you have roughly four months to sleep on it at home to determine if you like the mattress and if it suits your needs.
Keep in mind that it can take a month or longer for your body to adjust to a new mattress, no matter how well-suited it is to your sleeping preferences. The trial period begins the day the mattress is delivered, not when you actually start sleeping on it.
Return policy
Within the 120-night trial period, you can return the Signature mattress and get a refund. There is no upfront fee to initiate a return; however, they will deduct $99 from your refund, which helps facilitate the mattress pickup process.
Like most brands, Brooklyn Bedding will ask you to sleep on the bed for at least 30 nights before initiating a return because no matter how nice and well-suited your new mattress is to your sleep type, your body needs a bit of time to adjust to it.
Warranty
All Brooklyn Bedding mattresses are backed by a standard 10-year warranty. This is the minimum duration of warranty you should expect for almost every mattress.
How does the Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe compare to similar mattresses?
Aurora Luxe vs. Casper Snow
The Casper Snow Hybrid is the most affordable cooling mattress available from Casper. The cooling factor isn’t quite as strong as the Aurora Luxe, but it is noticeable and will help you sleep a bit cooler. The biggest difference between the Aurora Luxe and the Snow Hybrid is the Snow has a traditional memory foam feel that is slow to respond and conforms to your body’s shape. The Snow also comes in only one firmness option, which is around a flat medium so it should work for most sleepers, but there are no firm or soft options like the Aurora Luxe has.
Aurora Luxe vs. Nolah Evolution Hybrid
The Nolah Evolution Hybrid is the most popular bed from Nolah, and one of our editors actually has this mattress at home and loves it. The Nolah Evolution has a similar feel to the Aurora Luxe and it also comes in three different firmness options so no matter your preferred sleeping position you should be covered. There is also a variant of the Evolution Hybrid called the Comfort+ that is extra supportive and durable for heavier people.
The Aurora Luxe definitely wins for hot sleepers, but the Evolution Hybrid is a solidly temperature neutral mattress that shouldn’t heat up on you. The Nolah Evolution is a bit more expensive than the base model Aurora Luxe, but more affordable than the Cloud Pillow-Top version.
Final thoughts on the Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe mattress
The Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe is one of my favorite mattresses and I think if you decide to get one, you will really like it too. It has a feel that I think is nearly universally comfortable, you can pick and choose your firmness level, you can make it even more luxurious with the optional pillow-top and it has one of the strongest cooling factors of any mattress we’ve ever tested.
For people seeking out a super firm mattress I think that even the firm model of the Aurora Luxe might be a bit too soft, and not everyone needs a mattress with this much cooling, but for hot sleepers looking for a comfortable hybrid the Aurora Luxe is the bed for you.
You might like the Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe mattress if:
- You want a neutral feel
- You to pick and choose your firmness profile
- You are a hot sleeper
- You want a coil mattress
You might not like the Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe mattress if:
- You prefer a foam mattress
- You strongly prefer a memory foam feel
- You want something ultra-firm
Other mattresses from Brooklyn Bedding
Brooklyn Bedding Sedona Elite: This is Brooklyn Bedding's most high-end and luxurious mattress, and it has a unique construction element called micro coils. These tiny coils provide extra support and bounce but also are body-conforming. Our team has observed micro coils giving off a memory foam-type of feel that conforms to your body. But without the slow-to-respond quality memory foam usually has. The cover on the Sedona Elite is also quite cool-to-the-touch, like the Aurora Luxe, but we think the Aurora Luxe has the edge for hot sleepers.
Plank Firm Luxe: This is Brooklyn Bedding's super firm, flippable bed, and it is actually the firmest mattress we’ve ever tested. It has a “firm” side and an “extra-firm” side instead of a soft and a firm side like the majority of flippable mattresses.
The extra-firm side was rated at a 9.5 out of 10 and the firm side was rated at a 7.1 out of 10 so if you want something firm this is the bed for you. It also has an optional cooling cover that gives it some of the same cooling properties as the Aurora Luxe.
Brooklyn Bedding Signature: This is one of the best values in online mattresses and is a bed I recommend to any shopping on a budget. It is quite similar to the Aurora Luxe because it uses the same types of comfort foams, and it comes in three different firmness profiles.
The Signature also has an optional Cloud Pillow-Top that not only adds comfort foams, but it also adds the GlacioTex material to make it cooling.
All of the foams used in this bed are Certa-PUR US certified which means it's free of ozone-depleting chemicals and other chemicals like formaldehyde, so it is safe.
Yes, if you decide to return the Signature mattress within the 120-night trial period, $99 will be deducted from your refund.
This mattress is one of the best cooling mattresses on the market and will help you sleep cooler at night.
