Britney Spears' ex-husband Kevin Federline has some problems of his own to contend with.

The former back-up dancer and DJ, 47, was sued by Bank of America on February 19 in Hawaii for an alleged unpaid credit card debt of $12,186.64, according to TMZ.

Court documents indicate the account was opened in December 2024, shortly after Spears made her last child support payment to him.

Federline had been receiving $20,000 a month from Spears for their sons, Sean, 20, and Jayden, 19.

The lawsuit was filed two weeks before Spears' DUI arrest on Wednesday night in Ventura County, California.

The CHP said the 44-year-old singer was arrested on 'suspicion of driving under the influence of a combination of alcohol and drugs.' Spears has spoken out since the arrest, saying she's 'OK.'

They said chemical tests, which will further determine exact blood alcohol content and presence of drugs, are still pending.

According to police, a call came in around 8:48 p.m. PT to report a black BMW 430i was allegedly driving erratically at high speeds on the southbound side of US-101 near Newbury Park, California.

CHP officers in the vicinity of Moorpark located Spears' vehicle and initiated her to stop, after which she exited the highway and pulled over to the shoulder.

Police said Spears allegedly appeared to be impaired, so they conducted a series of field sobriety tests. Based on her performance, they arrested Spears for violating 'California Vehicle Code section 23152(g), driving under the influence of a combination of drugs and alcohol.'

Spears was taken to hospital following the arrest before taken to Ventura County Main Jail where she was 'crying a lot,' per TMZ.

She was booked around 3 a.m. on Thursday morning and released around 6 a.m., and now faces a court hearing on May 4.

'This was an unfortunate incident that is completely inexcusable,' a representative for the singer told the Daily Mail. 'Britney is going to take the right steps and comply with the law, and hopefully this can be the first step in the long-overdue changes that need to occur in her life.

'Hopefully, she can get the help and support she needs during this difficult time.

'Her boys are going to be spending time with her, and her loved ones are going to come up with an overdue plan to set her up for success and well-being.'

Spears' mother Lynne and her sons were among the first to reach out to the singer following her release from jail.

Spears' relationship with her boys - and her mother - has been more positive in recent years.

In December, she revealed on Instagram that she had spent a 'special' and 'beautiful' Christmas at home with Jayden.

'Britney had a fun time celebrating Christmas with Jayden — it's been such a special holiday,' a source told People at the time.

Her other son Sean couldn't be there as he had a work obligation to fulfill in Louisiana, though he was reportedly able to celebrate Christmas with his aunt Jamie Lynn Spears and grandmother Lynne.

Spears' reconciliation with her sons comes after a long period of estrangement that began after her conservatorship ended in late 2021.

She and Federline were married in 2004 after three months of dating, and they divorced in 2007.

Federline's memoir You Thought You Knew was released in October of last year and contained severe allegations against Spears

The father of six claimed Spears' 'erratic behavior' traumatized their sons

Though they initially agreed to share custody of Sean and Jayden, Federline was granted sole physical custody of the children amid Spears' mental breakdown and he retained custody for the majority of their childhood.

In August 2023, Jayden and Sean moved to Hawaii with their father and stepmother Victoria Prince and their half-sisters Jordan, 14, and Peyton, 11.

Federline's memoir You Thought You Knew was released in October of last year, and in it he claimed Spears' 'erratic behavior' traumatized their sons. But Spears' loving posts with Jayden over the holidays suggest they are bridging the gap of communication.

In September 2025, a source told Us Weekly that Spears was also 'slowly rebuilding' her relationship with Sean, adding, 'He still has mixed feelings, but seeing Jayden reunite with Britney has given him hope for their own future. She's so grateful to have them in her life. She feels whole again.'

Federline confirmed that Spears had spoken with her sons in the wake of his memoir's publication, saying their sons were 'trying to find a way to mend a bond with their mom,' adding that they 'absolutely love their mom.'
