Good morning! How about an absolutely distressing trailer to get you into the perfect Tuesday headspace? Danny and Michael Philippou, who transformed a viral party game into a soul-sacrificing ordeal in their 2023 debut Talk to Me, are here to deliver another dose of top-to-bottom terror with Bring Her Back. The new trailer is here ahead of the movie’s release next month, and we’re already anticipating nightmares just from this creepy clip.
While you can’t glean many new details about the plot—we already knew, thanks to A24, that it’s about “a brother and sister [who] uncover a terrifying ritual at the secluded home of their new foster mother”—there’s no missing the vibes oozing out of every frame. We have Sally Hawkins (The Shape of Water, Paddington) playing the mom and whispering about how “the spirit stays in the body for months after death.” We also have another orphaned kid in her house who doesn’t seem quite right, and going by the title, you can assume someone who is no longer alive is going to make a return visit… or give it a damn good try.
Meanwhile, the brother and sister are stuck in a world full of haunting video footage, weird bath time scenarios, and an oddly angular empty swimming pool that screams “danger” way than “summer fun.”
Needless to say, Bring Her Back is on our horror must-watch list. It’s directed by Danny Philippou and Michael Philippou; written by Danny Philippou and Bill Hinzman; and stars Billy Barratt, Sora Wong, Jonah Wren Phillips, Sally-Anne Upton, Stephen Phillips, and Mischa Heywood alongside Hawkins. It opens May 30.
