A cinematic obsessive with the filmic palate of a starving raccoon, Rob London will watch pretty much anything once. With a mind like a steel trap, he's an endless fount of movie and TV trivia, borne from a misspent youth of watching monster movies on TV, perusing the sun-faded goods at the local video rental shop, and staining his fingers with ink from the Video Movie Guide. Areas of interest include science fiction, film noir, horror flicks, '70s disaster pictures, Bond movies, '90s action, giant robots, dinosaurs, super heroes, and the exuberantly schlocky output of Cannon Films. He also enjoys both Star Trek and Star Wars when they're good, and maybe even more when they're bad. As a Canadian, he also has a vested interest in Canadian movies and TV shows, especially the cheesier ones dubbed "Canuxploitation."

An expert on Marvel Comics, he has also written for the Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe, and is a member of the Marvel Research Team. He can frequently be found pontificating on comic-book continuity or bemoaning the misfortunes of the Toronto Maple Leafs on his Twitter account.

The Mummy 4 has yet to wrap filming, but we've got a Great Pyramid-sized update on the upcoming legacy horror sequel. The film is set to hit theaters in one year, and its official social media accounts have unveiled one important piece of information: the movie's title, which contains an homage to the franchise's past and a hint to its future. It will be released on October 15, 2027.

The film is the fourth entry in the saga that began with 1999's The Mummy, continued with 2001's The Mummy Returns, and seemingly concluded in 2008 with The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor. The new film will reunite Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz as adventurers Rick and Evie O'Connell; both starred in the first two films, but Weisz was recast with Maria Bello in Dragon Emperor, which will be disregarded by the new film.

Now we know that the new movie will be titled The Mummy: Book of the Dead. It's an appropriate title: The Book of the Dead was an ancient funerary text that was placed in tombs by the ancient Egyptians. It's also been a plot point in the first two films: it's unearthed in the first film, accidentally awakening the immortal sorcerer Imhotep (Arnold Vosloo), and later used to strip away his supernatural powers, killing him. In The Mummy Returns, it's used to resurrect Imhotep and, later, is used by Rick to restore Evie to life. It seems that it will once more enter the lives of the O'Connells...and the afterlife of the mummy.

Who Else Is Involved With 'The Mummy: Book of the Dead'?

The Mummy: The Book of the Dead is directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, the directing collective known as Radio Silence; they've previously helmed horror hits like Ready or Not and 2022's Scream. The script is by David Coggeshall (Orphan: First Kill). Returning alongside Fraser and Weisz are John Hannah as Evie's gadabout brother Jonathan, Oded Fehr as mystic warrior Ardeth Bey, and Kevin J. O'Connor as hapless henchman Beni Gabor. Michael Johnston (Obsession) and Numan Acar (Spider-Man: Far From Home) will also join the cast.

The Mummy: Book of the Dead will be released in theaters on October 15, 2027. Stay tuned to Collider for future updates.
