Brazil largest bank Itaú works with OpenAssets on tokenized capital markets pilot

OpenAssets has partnered with Itaú, Latin America’s largest financial institution, to explore tokenization and digital asset use cases across Brazilian capital markets through a pilot led by the Brazilian Financial and Capital Markets Association, known as ANBIMA.

The collaboration will combine OpenAssets’ tokenization infrastructure with Itaú’s capital markets expertise as part of ANBIMA’s initiative to test the full lifecycle of financial instruments using distributed ledger technology.

The pilot is focused on the issuance, trading and settlement of capital markets instruments including debentures and investment funds.

OpenAssets and Itaú will work on technical proofs of concept, tokenization architecture and standards, as well as operational and compliance frameworks that could support digital market infrastructure.

The initiative will specifically explore how tokenized fixed income instruments and investment funds can be issued, settled and managed within requirements used by financial institutions.

OpenAssets Chairman and CEO Gabor Gurbacs said the project is intended to test how tokenized assets can operate within existing institutional standards and frameworks.

He also pointed to Brazil as a market where tokenization projects are moving from early experimentation toward practical implementation.

ANBIMA’s broader pilot brings together market participants to test and standardize how capital markets instruments can operate across distributed ledger technology networks from issuance through settlement.
