Over the years, Pitt has starred in several movies that have gone on to be hugely successful at the box office, including Ocean's Eleven, Mr. & Mrs. Smith, Troy, World War Z and F1. Across his entire career, the award-winning actor's films have grossed over $9 billion.
Pitt's highest-grossing movie ever, F1, already has a sequel in development. Now the acclaimed producer is sharing an update on the pre-production process. In an interview with ScreenRant's Alex Harrison at the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity, Bruckheimer said the creative team is "just about to start on a script shortly," and he's currently "negotiating with the writers' representatives."
Speaking of scripts, he also divulged that a first draft script of his untitled UFO project for Apple Original Films will begin soon as well.
"They're both in development. F1, I think we're just about to start a script shortly. Just negotiating with the writers' representatives. And we have a script that they're going to get very shortly, first draft, on our UFO project."
Before F1, Pitt's highest-grossing film was World War Z, which made $540 million in theaters, followed by Troy ($497 million), Mr. & Mrs. Smith ($487 million) and Ocean's Eleven ($450 million).
Then F1 was released in June 2025, debuting at No. 1 on opening weekend with $55.6 million domestically and $144 million worldwide. By the time it left theaters, it had grossed $634 million, setting a new box office record for Pitt's career.
The movie, which was made with the help of Formula One and Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA), stars Pitt, Damson Idris, Kerry Condon, Tobias Menzies, Javier Bardem, Kim Bodnia and Sarah Niles. Pitt's character Sonny Hayes makes his grand return to racing after 30 years away from the circuit.
Several real-life Formula One drivers, including Lewis Hamilton, Alexander Albon, Fernando Alonso, Oliver Bearman, Zhou Guanyu, Kevin Magnussen, Daniel Ricciardo, George Russell and Max Verstappen, made appearances, with Hamilton also serving as a producer alongside Bruckheimer and Pitt.
Top Gun: Maverick's Joseph Kosinski directed the sports drama, and Transformers' Ehren Kruger wrote the script.
Aside from being a huge hit at the box office, F1 also proved to be a critically acclaimed film, earning a Certified Fresh score of 82% on Rotten Tomatoes (and an audience score of 97%).
During awards season, it received four Oscar nominations, including Best Picture, Best Film Editing and Best Visual Effects, and won for Best Sound. F1 also earned two nominations at the Golden Globes.
Now Apple Films and Jerry Bruckheimer Films have turned their attention to a sequel. Not much is known about the upcoming movie, but with Bruckheimer's latest update, it's now been confirmed that work on the script will begin very soon.
Aside from the Brad Pitt film, Bruckheimer has also produced such hits as Top Gun, Top Gun: Maverick, the Pirates of the Caribbean series, Bad Boys, National Treasure and Armageddon, among many others.
