Boruto Will Connect to Naruto's Biggest Unsolved Mystery, and the Result Will Be Explosive

5 days ago 5

One of the defining features of the Boruto franchise is its major focus on the mysterious alien clan known as Otsutsuki. These ancient and cruel planet-eating warriors first appeared in the final moments of the Fourth Great Shinobi War of the Naruto series. For many years, they remained one of the franchise’s biggest mysteries, until the Boruto series delved deep into their lore and abilities.

Yet, a small detail found in chapter #34 of the sequel series might confirm that they have been influencing the Shinobi World long before being introduced. One of the biggest unsolved mysteries in Naruto was the identity of the god Jashin, worshipped by the murderous and mad Hidan, an iconic member of Akatsuki. While more details about the cult of Jashin were revealed in the spinoff Konoha Story, the identity of this mysterious god is still shrouded in mystery, but Boruto may have already teased the incredible truth.

Shibai Could Have Made An Appearance Earlier Than Expected

Jashin Could Have Been The Otsutsuki God All Along

The God Jashin, worshiped by the Akatsuki member Hidan, could have been the ominous Shibai Otsutsuki in disguise, as proven by the symbols used to invoke their powers being extremely similar. Jashin seemingly gave Hidan the ability to forge a connection between bodies after drinking a small amount of his target’s blood. Thanks to Hidan’s unique ability to heal from all injuries, he could utilize the gift from his patron to end the life of his opponent by injuring himself. Nonetheless, to activate this technique, Hidan needed to first draw the mark of Jashin, an inverted triangle inside a circle.

After Hidan was defeated by Shikamaru in one of Naruto’s most memorable battles, this symbol and all mentions of the deity disappeared from the main series, with their origins becoming a mystery. Even in the two spinoff novels (and the manga adaptation of one) where he is mentioned, Jashin never makes an appearance or is spoken of in a historical sense, with Hidan basically acting as his prophet.

However, most fans may have missed a key detail in Boruto chapter #34, in which the place where Amado keeps the clones of one of his cyborgs, Delta, was depicted. This odd installation contained three pods where the spare bodies of Akebi’s reincarnation lay asleep. Below them, a symbol identical to the one associated with Jashin can be seen, with the only difference being three lines that connect to the pods.

Delta's other bodies sitting inside pods laid on top of Jashin's symbol.

Throughout the Boruto series, Amado has never mentioned any link between his experiments and the deity known as Jashin. What he has commented on several times, is his deep knowledge of the Otsutsuki who ascended to another plain of existence, Shibai. The abilities his cyborgs have awakened with time, called Shinjutsu due to their divine nature, have been confirmed to come from the alien god. This small detail could be a hint of Shibai and Jashin being the same, with the latter being a fake identity he utilized to interact with humans.

Shibai Being Jashin Could Explain His Supernatural Abilities

He Could Have Been Trying To Cause Chaos Among Humans

During Hidan’s time as one of the main antagonists of the Akatsuki Suppression arc, the nature of his powers was never explained. The anime explained that Jashin had a small but loyal following who worked closely with the Akatsuki member to grant him immortality. Nevertheless, the rituals or techniques utilized during their religious ceremonies were only shown in the Akatsuki Hiden novel, where a man called Ameyuki slaughters his village to gain Jashin's powers, but he's easily killed by Hidan, proving that the ritual was fake, or at least wrong.

Since Konoha Story shows another Jashin follower, Ryuki, trying to enact the same ritual but failing, fans of the franchise believed that this little mystery would remain unsolved, or perhaps that Jashin was always meant to be a fictional deity in the Naruto world. However, the presence of this mysterious entity’s symbol in the Boruto series could disprove these theories. Given that Amado’s experiments all have some sort of connection to Shibai, the triangle inside a circle may also be a symbol associated with the Otsutsuki.

If this is the case, an interesting theory could be that Shibai has been interacting with humans disguised as Jashin. The ability to kill people by drinking their blood could be a yet unknown Shinjutsu, granted to the humans with whom he developed a spiritual connection, like the Seventh Hokage and Hagoromo.

Boruto Finally Explains The Secret Of Its Broken Powers

Boruto finally explains the origins of Eida, Daemon, and Code’s overpowered abilities that have upset the series. It all leads back to the Ohtsutsuki.

In episode #420 of the Naruto Shippuden anime, Kaguya’s son used his abilities to communicate with the protagonist. He did so to aid the Shinobi Alliance in their battle against Madara as he wished for the planet he loved to remain. Shibai, unlike the famed and wise Sage of Six Paths, does not hold the same love for Earth, as proven by the countless worlds he devastated in search of power. If he did indeed find a way to communicate with humans, it is possible that he would use it to cause chaos, making it easier for other aliens to take over.

Delta Could Become Jashin’s New Weapon

Delta Has Already Been Shown To Possess The Ability Of Being Reincarnated

Delta self-destructs her body to cause harm to her opponents.

Out of all the cyborgs created by Amado in the Boruto franchise, Delta seems to be the most important and connected with Shibai. Not only is she an incomplete reincarnation of Akebi, the late daughter of the scientist, but she was also the one whose pods were positioned on top of Jashin’s emblem. Above all, her tendency to self-destruct and reawaken inside a new body is like Hidan’s skill to cause himself severe harm to defeat an opponent. The series might be hinting at Delta soon acquiring an ability equal to the former Akatsuki member.

The blonde cyborg is one of the few who have not awakened their Shinjutsu, despite having been created with cells from Shibai. Despite this, the manga has pointed at characters like Delta soon obtaining their divine ability, as stated by Kashin Koji in chapter #13 of Boruto: Two Blue Vortex, when he awakened his Prescience ability. Akebi’s clone could be set to obtain the abilities of Hidan, becoming capable of causing harm to her opponents by sacrificing her own body. This would be an outstanding way to connect the threads that have been left throughout the franchise about the god’s identity.

Giving Delta this ability would grant her an amazing advantage during battle, transforming her weakness into an incredible strength. It would also allow her to become a valuable asset to Konoha during their upcoming fight against Jura and his ever-growing group of Divine Trees. Delta has often been considered one of Amado’s weakest creations, as her abilities are not as devastating as Code or Eida’s, setting her up for a major power-up. Awakening this ability would also allow the series to explain more about the secret abilities obtained by Shibai before his ascent to godhood.

The Boruto franchise has often utilized topics and characters from its predecessor to keep its story connected to its roots. Bringing back Jashin would be an intriguing way to explore one of the series’ biggest mysteries, while also expanding the lore of this enigmatic deity. Regardless of this, Delta will continue to play a vital role in the story, almost ensuring that her character will have to be further developed down the line.
