Throughout the Boruto: Two Blue Vortex manga, many new and old villains have appeared to remind fans how much of a threat they are to the world. From the egotistical android Code to the morbidly curious Jura, the series does not lack imposing and dangerous villains for the heroes to fight against.
Among the antagonists of this beloved series, Momoshiki is perhaps the most intriguing as almost nothing is known about his current plans to overtake Boruto’s body. Yet, the series might have already revealed that the powerful member of the feared Otsutsuki clan will not be a major issue during the story, as the protagonist will have dealt with him before the end.
Boruto Has Been Shown To Have Control of His Karma in the Final Fight
Momoshiki Does Not Seem To Control Boruto During His Flash-Forward Final Fight With Kawaki
Chapter #1 of the Boruto manga gave fans a glimpse of what can be expected during the final battle between the protagonist and Kawaki. Surrounded by a destroyed Hidden Leaf Village, both characters prepare to battle until the bitter end. During this small moment, both Boruto and Kawaki can be seen utilizing their Karma marks to boost their power, as they have done several times throughout the series. It is a devastating scene that reveals there is no salvation for Kawaki, as he is willing to die to hold on to his ideals.
Nonetheless, the moment also gives a less direct but still crucial bit of information about Two Blue Vortex’s story. During chapter #9 of the second part, Boruto revealed that he is unable to utilize his Karma mark due to the fear of Momoshiki taking over his body. This topic was brought up again in chapter #15, during which Naruto’s son told Kawaki that he could feel the alien trying to take control of him whenever the technique was activated.
The fact that he could use this ability during the flash-forward in chapter #1 of the original series proves that this will not be an issue in the future. Although Momoshiki being defeated at some point was almost guaranteed, seeing as villains rarely ever win in the franchise, this revelation can make any conflict with the alien feel less shocking for readers. The stakes during any battle or interaction with the Otsutsuki will not have a lasting impact, as fans will know that Boruto will find a way to defeat or control him by the end.
Momoshiki Could Choose To Ally With Boruto
The Alien Could Aid His Host As Kurama Did With His Father
While the fact that Boruto has control over his Karma mark during the final battle against Kawaki might imply that Momoshiki has been defeated by that point, this is not the only possibility. The Naruto franchise is widely known for having heroes who never give up on saving or redeeming their villains. The best-known example of this phenomenon is the Seventh Hokage himself, who found a way to turn the formidable and cruel Nine-Tails Fox into a close friend. The fandom went from hating Kurama to celebrating his sudden and enigmatic rebirth.
Momoshiki has been a burden for Boruto throughout a vast portion of the series, yet this could change during these crucial times for the world. The Otsutsuki might realize that defeating Jura and the Sentient God Trees is the only way to ensure his return and willingly cooperate with his host. If Boruto follows the path laid by his father in the past, this reluctant alliance might become a genuine friendship with time. Momoshiki could become a loyal friend and partner like Kurama was once for Naruto, even if this development would be perhaps too predictable.
This would greatly help Boruto in his quest to stop the Sentient God Trees and Kawaki. What is more, this could be the only way for the protagonist to surpass his former friend, who has been set to receive an unnatural power-up in upcoming chapters. By having Momoshiki by his side, Boruto would be able to use the full power of his Karma mark without worrying about losing control of his powers. Nevertheless, this last possibility is the least likely to occur, as the Otsutsuki has been nothing but antagonistic towards his host.
Momoshiki will remain as one of Boruto: Two Blue Vortex’s most enigmatic characters for a long time until the series decides it is time to reveal his intentions. Even though the revelation that the alien will not be a significant part of the ending, he seems to still be important to the plot. His actions could define the future of the protagonist, by either forcing him to confront his demons or giving him a mighty ally.
