Boots Riley Is Taking His ‘I Love Boosters’ on a College Tour

Can’t make it to SXSW? Can’t wait until May to see Boots Riley‘s sophomore feature film? Still in college? Have we got good news for you. Ahead of its premiere as the opening-night offering at this year’s SXSW Film Festival, the filmmaker and Neon have today announced that “I Love Boosters” will go on a college tour (Riley included) that kicks off this April.

Per Neon, Riley’s second film, following his 2018 debut “Sorry to Bother You” sees the multi-disciplinary artist and creator “honing in on his singular style; deftly crafting a representation of the absurdities of the world we live in” and the film will “expand Riley’s tradition of boundary-pushing storytelling and inspires audiences to be part of something bigger than themselves.”

The film stars Keke Palmer, Naomi Ackie, Taylour Paige, Lakeith Stanfield, Poppy Liu, Eiza Gonzalez, Will Poulter, Don Cheadle, and Demi Moore. Per its wonderfully slim logline, the film follows “a crew of professional shoplifters who take aim at a cutthroat fashion maven. It’s like community service.”

Neon will release the film in theaters nationwide on Friday, May 22. The film opens this year’s SXSW and will mark Riley’s second time premiering a project at the festival, following his 2023 Prime Video series “I’m a Virgo.”
