Hugh Grant Gives Major Update On ‘Bridget Jones’ 4 Plot (Exclusive)

It is a truth universally acknowledged that when one year of incredible book-to-screen adaptations comes to an end, another will take its place.

From the long-awaited arrival of It Ends With Us—which saw Blake Lively, Brandon Sklenar and Justin Baldoni take center stage in the Colleen Hoover adaptation—to Elin Hildebrand’s beach read thriller The Perfect Couple giving us yet another Nicole Kidman miniseries to swoon over, there was plenty to love about the adaptations that captivated viewers in 2024.

But 2025 kicks off with quite a bang as yet another Bridget Jones makes its way onto our screens—and into our hearts. Based on the third installment in Helen Jones’ series, Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy, the adaptation of the same name sees Renée Zellweger joined by both OG love interests Hugh Grant and Colin Firth—who is, quite literally, only there in spirit—as well as new suitors in Leo Woodall and Chiwetel Ejiofor.

Plus, after skipping out on summer in Cousins last year, The Summer I Turned Pretty returns for season three in 2025.

And creator Jenny Han—who also wrote the trilogy the series is based on—and central trio Lola Tung (Belly Conklin), Christopher Briney (Conrad Fisher) and Gavin Casalegno (Jeremiah Fisher) have promised there is a whole lot of drama still in store, with Casalegno calling it a “magical” third season.

One that may just see Belly continuing to live and learn, Han teased.

“We’re just with her every step of the way and hopefully having empathy for her and empathy for ourselves in moments where we have acted less than perfectly,” she said at the Teen Vogue Summit in November. “I think it’s hard to see characters really like go through it or make these big mistakes and say those things that they really regret.”

Of course, she’s not the only literary character coming to life. Slow Horses returns for season five—based on Mick Herron's London Rules—next year and the second part of Wicked will continue to defy gravity next November and so much more. Keep reading to see all the books heading to screen in 2025 and beyond.

Making this all the more sinister? The film, like its release date, is set in a rapidly approaching 2025. We’re absolutely on board for this one—although a bit terrified, tbh.

Why We’re Excited: Cue the Kate Bush classic, we’re heading back to the moors. Filmmaker Emerald Fennell is reteaming with her Saltburn collaborators—Elordi starred and Robbie produced—for a take on Catherine Earnshaw and Heathcliff that we’ve surely never seen before.

Lionsgate

The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping

Based On: Suzanne Collins’ forthcoming book of the same name

Starring: TBD
Premieres: November 20, 2026

Why We’re Excited: On the same day Collins’ latest trip to Panem was announced (the book will drop in March 2025), Lionsgate confirmed it would be adapting the much-anticipated story following a young Haymitch Abernathy—Peeta and Katniss’ famously haunted mentor in the 74th Hunger Games—during his winning battle in the 50th Games.

Hachette Books

 The Housemaid

Based On: Freida McFadden’s 2022 novel

Starring: Sydney Sweeney, Amanda Seyfried, Brandon Sklenar and Michele Marrone

Premieres: TBD

Why We’re Excited: The cast alone is enough to have us seated for the adaptation, which follows a maid to a wealthy family with some very sinister secrets bubbling under the surface. But Paul Feig, who is no stranger to a twisty story with A Simple Favor—and its forthcoming sequel—is at the helm so it’s safe to say we’re in for quite a ride.

William Morrow

Margo’s Got Money Troubles

Based on: Rufi Thorpe’s 2024 novel
Starring: Elle FanningMichelle Pfeiffer and Nicole Kidman

Premieres: TBD on Apple TV+
Why we’re Excited: Is it really a limited series if it doesn’t have Kidman popping up in it? Thorpe’s book—following the daughter of a former Hooters waitress and a onetime pro-wrestler who turns to OnlyFans after becoming a single mom at 20—is already excellent on its own. But this casting has certainly placed this eight-episode series at the top of the must-watch list.
