Despite being widely regarded as one of the best video games of all time, Bloodborne remains something of a sore subject for many of its fans. First released back in 2015, Bloodborne is considered FromSoftware's magnum opus, but thanks to being stuck under Sony's control, it is yet to receive an official PC port, remaster, or remake, and remains firmly exclusive to PlayStation consoles.
However, thanks to the skills and creativity of its dedicated fanbase, Bloodborne is in its best state yet when it comes to unofficial PC ports and mods, and one such example of that is none other than... HardBorne.
Bloodborne: Hardborne Is The Ultimate Challenge
Perhaps having the best mod name of all time, Hardborne is a free-to-play mod for Bloodborne which aims to completely overhaul the FromSoftware title as we know it. With new NPCs, bosses, quests, armor, weapons, and much more, this mod is a must-have for Bloodborne's biggest fans. Developed by Xenobyte, Gazu, Colorsolid, Tlarok, et al. over on Nexus Mods, Hardborne is clearly a labor of love, with its story taking place after the final events of Bloodborne.
"A new character called Nevel has taken Laurence's experiment even further and has unleashed upon Yharnam a new and more deadly plague, and it is your job to piece together what happened as you fight your way through the new hordes of enemies and challenges!"
With the chance to meet Laurence himself, Hardborne will see you delve into the mysteries still left over from the main story, but be prepared as this mod is called what it is for a reason. With the developers claiming that players will "die a lot", this mod is definitely for those who are looking for an extra challenge and find that the original suffering FromSoftware presented was just not enough. However, with between 15–25 hours of brand-new content to get stuck into, it is most definitely worth it. Probably.
An Official Bloodborne Remake Is Unlikely
Let us face it, an official remake or remaster is looking more unlikely as years go by, despite us all donning our clown masks every time Sony hosts an event. Despite FromSoftware being on board to breathe new life into Bloodborne, Sony reportedly do not share the same vision and so, for now, the hit title remains firmly stuck on PlayStation hardware. At least officially.
Unofficially, it is mods such as Hardborne that allow players to experience the game when and how they like, as well as offering heaps of brand-new content that would otherwise be impossible. To them, we are eternally grateful.
