The Blade Runner franchise originated from Philip K. Dick's novel from 1968 titled Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? The sci-fi series has two movies, an anime series, multiple comics, and video games exploring the cyberpunk dystopian future where bioengineered "replicants" are hunted down. Now, the franchise is yet again returning with an impressive cast in a new miniseries.
Entertainment Weekly has released first-look images of the upcoming sci-fi miniseries Blade Runner 2099 with stars Hunter Schafer and Michelle Yeoh. Blade Runner is easily one of the most influential sci-fi franchises in history, and showrunner Silka Luisa states how original Blade Runner director Ridley Scott played a key role in the series, "Because both visually and in terms of story, there are mythological canon points in his film that we’re touching, and it was really important to both get his blessing and have his insight into what his original intentions were."
After being in development for five years, the new Blade Runner series is officially coming to Prime Video, but it has yet to announce an official release date. "There is so much legacy with Blade Runner. Every person who touched the show in any way is a huge fan. Everyone was very well aware of the weight of what we were doing, and we did it with great care. That is why it has taken so long, because we wanted to make sure we got it right," stated Luisa.
