Black Ops 7 season 2 early patch notes – Ranked Play, 8 maps, 7 weapons, and a lot more

Call of Duty’s live service season is kicking things into high gear for season two of Black Ops 7 with a massive load of content.

Whether you want new weapons, maps, modes, or to sweat it out in the Ranked ladder, season two has a little bit of everything across multiplayer, Endgame, Zombies, and even Warzone for the curious CoD player to check out.

Here’s everything we know so far about season two, launching in BO7 on Feb. 5.

BO7 season 2 patch notes

8 multiplayer maps

Four maps at launch and four maps at midseason with a mixture of both new and classic remasters makes this one of the more compelling seasons in CoD multiplayer in some time.

On launch day for season two, new maps Sake, Nexus, and Torque will be joined by Black Ops 2 classic Slums. Then, in Season Two Reloaded some time in March, new map Mission: Peak will be accompanied by some favs: Cliff Town (remake of BO2’s Yemen), Grind (BO2 DLC map), and Firing Range (originally seen in Black Ops 1).

7 weapons

Need more tools to dominate public matches with? This season’s got plenty, and they’re all free. At launch, there’s the REV-46 SMG, EGRT-17 assault rifle, and HS11-SAW melee weapon as part of the battle pass. The GDL Havoc grenade launcher will also be ready to roll from the get-go as part of weekly challenges.

In-season, the SG-12 shotgun, Voyak KT-3 assault rifle, and Swordfish A1 marksman rifle will be unlockable for free as part of seasonal events.

Ranked Play

The competitive ladder mode for BO7 arrives alongside season two, bringing with it a slew of rewards to earn while climbing the ranks. The mode is similar to the Ranked Play that’s been seen in the last few CoD titles, where placement matches, Skill Rating, and rank divisions are all familiar.

BO7 Ranked Play will use the same maps and ruleset as the Call of Duty League, so only the sweatiest of sweats will be lining up to rank up and earn rewards like operator skins, blueprints, calling cards, camos, and more.

New Scorestreak

A new Scoresteak for multiplayer gamers is coming in the mid-season update as a weekly challenge unlock, and it’s called the Lockshot:

“A sleek smart pistol with 3 rounds that can lock onto multiple targets,” Activision described. “A single trigger pull eliminates every locked target in quick succession.”

Weapon nerfs and buffs

Offending guns and weaker ones are expected to be getting changes as part of season two. Check back here closer to Feb. 5 launch for official details on what’s being tweaked.

New and returning game modes

Safeguard and Overdrive return to join the rotation of game modes in season two, alongside themed limited time modes and playlists like Solo Hearts Moshpit and Third Wheel Gunfight for Valentine’s Day, and Luck Confirmed for St. Patrick’s Day.

At mid-season, a new mode called Gauntlet will join the fray, combining multiple modes into one:

“Similar to the Pentathlon mode in Black Ops 6, two teams of six compete through a series of modes. The first team to reach the Score Limit wins,” Activision said. “The modes in question are Team Deathmatch, Domination, Kill Confirmed, Hardpoint, and an additional [CLASSIFIED] mode. The mode changes every two minutes, and modes are chosen at random.”

Endgame updates

The PvE Endgame mode continues with a good amount of post-launch support in season two. This includes a new Skill Track, a new public event called Guild Strike that will spawn nightmare zones “featuring extreme challenges more difficult and dangerous than a current Tier IV area.”

Here’s what’s been revealed about the new Skill Track, Eagle Eye, which is based around buffing critical hits and headshots:

  • Increased Crit Damage: Critical hits deal more damage.
  • Big Hit: Increases Critical Damage dealt to full health enemies.
  • Last Shots Plus: Deal more damage when your weapon is low on ammo.
  • Rampage: Getting rapid kills briefly increases weapon damage with that weapon.
  • Aim Faster: Aim down sights faster.
  • Armor Breaker: Stun and damage enemies when breaking enemy armor.

There’s two new abilities to use, too:

  • Sentinel Protocol (Major Ability)
    • Call in a modified Guild robot to fight your enemies and assist your team. Can revive you and your teammates when downed and inflict a small area of effect attack when swarmed.
  • Blood Burner (Minor Ability)
    • Spawn a mysterious motorcycle good for traversal and combat. Running over enemies charges a special area of effect attack.

There’s even more Endgame content coming at midseason.

Limited time events

Several limited time events have already been announced for season two, in which players can unlock rewards for free, like several of the aforementioned weapons.

The events are called Escalation Directive (eight new weapon camos to unlock), and Hunt or Be Hunted. There are also a number of Zombies events, including several leaderboard events that most players are not big fans of.
