Bisexual country star Maren Morris passionately kisses songstress Cassadee Pope as true nature of relationship is revealed

Maren Morris and her fellow country songstress Cassadee Pope set off a whirlwind of romance rumors with a kiss pic on Instagram.

Pope, 36, posted a photo to her Stories of herself locking lips with Morris, 36, writing slyly: 'she won't go out with you because she's out with me, silly.'

On her main page, she shared a photo of her and Morris hugging at a restaurant in New York, where the latter attended Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce's 1,000-person wedding at Madison Square Garden last week.

Morris announced she was bisexual while commemorating Pride Month in 2024, months after she finalized her divorce from songwriter Ryan Hurd.

However a source has now spoken exclusively to the Daily Mail and disclosed that she and Pope have merely 'been good friends for years. Cassadee is in a relationship. Girls kiss each other sometimes, it’s not a big deal.'

The insider insisted: 'It was just a cheeky kiss between friends. But because of Maren’s coming out a few years ago people are making it into something it’s not.' 

The Daily Mail has contacted Pope and Morris' representatives for comment. 

Morris came out as bisexual on social media five months after finalizing her divorce, writing in June 2024: 'Happy to be the B in LGBTQ+, happy pride!'

She and Hurd, both country singers, tied the knot in Nashville in 2018 and are co-parents to a now six-year-old son called Hayes. 

Meanwhile Pope has only publicly dated men and has never previously expressed to fans that she has a romantic inclination toward women.

Her last known relationship was with Nashville actor Sam Palladio, whom she was involved with for seven years before they split in 2024. 

Morris and Pope have a link stretching back to at least 2022, when they teamed up to carry on a spat with their fellow country star Jason Aldean's wife Brittany.

Brittany Aldean had written on Instagram: 'I'd really like to thank my parents for not changing my gender when I went through my tomboy phase.'

Pope reacted by fuming on what was then still known as Twitter: 'You’d think celebs with beauty brands would see the positives in including LGBTQ+ people in their messaging. But instead here we are, hearing someone compare their “tomboy phase” to someone wanting to transition. Real nice.'

Morris leapt into the replies and chimed in: 'It’s so easy to, like, not be a scumbag human? Sell your clip-ins and zip it, Insurrection Barbie.'

Right-wing pundit Candace Owens then slammed Morris on Twitter, prompting Morris to sneer: 'My Grammy is positively sobbing right now,' and Owens to accuse her of sounding 'like a 15 year old girl on Tik-Tok.' 

In 2023, Morris appeared on RuPaul's Drag Race and apologized on the verge of tears for country music's 'relationship with LGBTQ+ members.' 

Months later, she wrote an essay denouncing the 'awful' way that 'the country music industry has treated LGBTQ people' in Billboard.

'There are people like Ty Herndon, who wasn’t able to come out until he was basically not in the industry anymore. But there is progress being made: TJ Osborne, one of my closest friends, came out a couple years ago, and there’s such support behind him because it’s like: "Yeah, it doesn’t matter."'

TJ, who is one of the Brothers Osborne, became the only openly gay artist signed to a major country label upon coming out in February 2021.

Last Friday, Morris joined a cavalcade of celebrities at Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce's nuptials in Madison Square Garden, which were officiated by Adam Sandler and featured performances by Stevie Nicks, Paul McCartney and the bride herself. 

Stars galore flocked to the wedding, where a fairytale castle inspired by Swift's Love Story music video was reportedly erected inside the stadium.

Road closures near the venue plunged traffic into chaos and impeded travel out of Penn Station just as New Yorkers tried to leave town for Fourth of July weekend.

Gigi Hadid and Bradley Cooper, as well as Selena Gomez, Lena Dunham, Hugh Grant, Steven Spielberg, Jay-Z, Beyonce, Tom Brady, Jessica Chastain, Ed Sheeran, The Chainsmokers, Chris Rock, Jessica Alba, Danny Ramirez, Paul Mescal, Gracie Abrams and several of Kelce's Kansas City Chiefs teammates like Patrick Mahomes were on hand for the blowout extravaganza.

Even Karlie Kloss, long rumored to have fallen out with Swift, managed to snag an invitation along with her husband Joshua Kushner.
