While Big Brother 28 is just getting underway, things are being shaken up in the house after the very first week of gameplay after Rick Devens, former Survivor castaway, won the second Head of Household. Devens, who's aligned with his fellow Survivor alum Dee Valladares in the game, rose to power after the show's first live eviction played out, sending Ashley packing over Taylor with a unanimous vote. Despite Devens initially seeming to want to lie low, the chaotic castaway won the second HOH of the season and has already started to stir things up between his fellow BB housemates.
Devens, who created two alliances along with Dee, spent the first hours of his HOH reign cultivating a large new alliance and creating some chaos for those on the outside. Devens, Dee, and BB alum Angela Murray came into the game with massive targets on their backs, but over the first weeks of gameplay, have managed to protect themselves well with their fellow houseguests. Creating a new alliance with Barrett, Chuk, Drew, Haley, and Kamu, the reality TV veterans now have the newly named Toolshed to keep them safe moving forward. While Devens had nominees in mind, things changed quickly.
Originally planning to nominate a group including Melody, LaTrice, and Mallory, Devens changed his tune after being approached by Rome and then talking with the larger alliance. Rather than taking out a smaller target, Devens made it clear that he's looking to play the game hard with his nominations, rolling the dice on a plan that could backfire on him in the long run. While it's possible that Devens may have just made a critical mistake in the hopes of taking out Rome during his HOH reign, his Big Brother nominations are a fun gamble for the reality TV veteran.
Big Brother's HOH Devens Nominated Melody, Lyric, & Jason For Eviction
ParamountAlthough Devens' plan is to ultimately backdoor Rome and send him packing, he chose to nominate three of his allies for eviction as his first responsibility as Head of Household. After a ton of back and forth between Devens and Rome after the HOH competition, Devens felt that targeting Rome as the leader of the other side of the house was the best case scenario. Even if he isn't able to take Rome out, he'll be able to take out one of his strongest numbers in the game. This could be a major blow for Rome moving forward.
While Devens' nomination speech won't be aired until the Sunday episode of Big Brother, live feeders got a preview of what he was expected to say during the large alliance meeting after the HOH competition. Angela pitched Devens a line about the house feeling like two tribes from the beginning of the game, and it appears Devens was going to roll with the dramatics, which will hopefully play out on Big Brother's next episode. Even if Rome doesn't wind up on the block, it's likely that someone close to him will leave the game in the next live eviction episode.
Interestingly, Devens' nominations may wind up eliminating one of the houseguests who's coming for him the most. While it's possible that Jason isn't on the block come eviction night, he'd be one of the best people for Devens to get rid of during his HOH reign. From the start, Jason has been against Devens and looking to get rid of him at the first chance. While Lyric and Rome's quickly formed showmance may be something to keep on the radar, Big Brother could lose one of its messiest players regardless this week if Jason is on the block eviction night.
