Carcosan modifiers in Saros are unique buffs and debuffs that you can equip to upgrade Arjun's abilities and traits. You'll unlock the system after you complete the second biome, and can access it by talking to Primary in the Passage. Depending on the list of modifiers you put together, you can turn Arjun into the best soldier against lovecraftian creatures, or you can make the game unbearably difficult.
To help you find the perfect balance and know which ones are worth the price, we selected the five best modifiers in Saros.
Best Carcosan modifiers in Saros
Carcosan modifiers are split into two categories: protection and trial. The former are buffs that make Arjun stronger. They can increase his damage, upgrade his shield, and even restore a Second Chance stack if it has been spent. On the other hand, the latter are debuffs that make your life in Carcosa much harder than it already is. A trial modifier can make enemies stronger and even prevent you from finding upgrade materials.

The idea is to find a balance between these two types of modifiers. You can only lock a list of modifiers if the Carcosan modifier meter stays between -3 and +3.
Below you'll find a list of five modifiers that you should consider running to make your life in Carcosa a bit less challenging.
Damage enhancement (Protection)
In Carcosa, the horrors you must face are many, from the ancient Prophet, whose plants can trap you in place, to the flying, mind-bending Architect. However, it doesn't matter how old or creepy these creatures are if your shots hit them hard. That's why you need the damage enhancement modifier as it increases the damage dealt to hostiles.
This upgrade has three tiers and can cost up to seven points — which will force you to select a few trials to compensate — but it's still worth it. The buff from this modifier can easily help you deplete two of a boss' three health bars in less than two minutes.
Armor enhancement (Protection)
It might seem obvious, but sometimes we need to remind ourselves to stick to the basics and keep things simple. Armor enhancement reduces the amount of damage you take from enemies. Just as high damage kills enemies faster, higher defense keeps you alive longer — and that's exactly what you want when playing Saros.
Like the damage enhancement modifier, armor enhancement is an expensive bonus (seven points at tier three). It is, however, a great option for those who are struggling to make it through a biome or learning a boss' attacks.
Lucenite enrichment (Protection)
Among the protection modifiers available in the game, lucenite enrichment is a good option because you'll find stronger weapons earlier on in your runs. With this modifier, the lucenite cost to level up Arjun's proficiency is reduced. Since proficiency determines the level and stats of weapons and power weapons, you'll want to reach the highest level possible before a boss fight to ensure you're prepared. It's a cheaper buff if compared to the other two, costing up to five points at tier three.

Because finding a balance is crucial when using this system, you need to pick trial modifiers to compensate for the protection ones you've selected. One of the best ones is artifact destruction, a modifier that destroys a random artifact you have upon reaching a new biome. Artifact destruction is only harmful if you're planning to run more than one biome in sequence. At the same time, there's a high chance you'll die during a cycle, losing your proficiency level and artifacts, so losing one artifact is a low price to pay. Otherwise, artifact destruction is great, since it won't affect your damage or survivability. Besides, it gives you two points to spend on a protection modifier.
Halcyon removal (Trial)
I know that selecting halcyon removal, a modifier that prevents halcyon from appearing, sounds like a terrible idea, but it depends on the context. When exploring a biome for the first time, you don't want to have halcyon removal equipped because it will prevent you from upgrading Arjun. On the other hand, if you've learned what you need to do during a boss fight and you're ready to take it down, then you want to run the best modifiers at their highest tier. Halcyon removal gives you six points, which is more than enough to equip a tier three damage enhancement and still have room for a tier one armor enhancement. Finding more halcyon can come later, after you have defeated the next boss.
