Bessent to meet China’s He Lifeng ahead of Trump-Xi summit

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said he will meet Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng this weekend ahead of President Donald Trump’s planned Sept. 24 summit with Xi Jinping. Bessent said the talks will include sanctions tied to the war in Iran. He also said rising Treasury yields are largely driven by higher oil prices. During a House hearing, Bessent stressed that the US must maintain its lead in artificial intelligence as competition with China becomes a central source of friction.
