Warning: SPOILERS for chapter #377 of BerserkAfter a long six-month hiatus, Berserk has finally returned with its newest chapter #377, and promises another new release on November 8, 2024. Since Studio Gaga took on responsibility for Berserk's continuation, following the passing of the legendary Kentaro Miura, the series has operated on a rather irregular release schedule. Now, with a new arc officially underway, it seems new chapters may begin to come in more frequently.
In a precarious position following the destruction of Elfhelm and the capture of Casca, Guts and company are at a bit of a crossroads, with all paths leading toward Griffith and Falconia. Residing in Kushan territory, it seems inevitable that the two forces will have to work together in order to invade Griffith's kingdom. Before then, however, as the Kushan are discussing their war plans, a threat makes itself known, setting the stage for a major battle to come.
Berserk Finally Returns With Another Imminent Threat
The Apostle Rakshas Returns at the Worst Time For Guts
Since resuming publication in 2022, Berserk has had little downtime from action and despair. Before Studio Gaga was given the Herculean task of continuing the series without its author, Berserk was in the midst of a rare peaceful arc, featuring the main crew taking refuge on Elfhelm, healing from their wounds and reminiscing on their long journey. A short time later, Griffith intruded on the island, destroying it and capturing Casca in devastating fashion.
With Guts out of commission, the main cast is now residing in Kushan territory, being held partially captive by its inhabitants. And as the Kushan are discussing plans to go to war with Griffith and Falconia, the apostle Rakshas appears in striking fashion. The Bakiraka exile turned demonic assassin poses a real threat to anyone in the vicinity, and will be a major challenge for Guts and company. And given recent events, it's possible the Black Swordsman is in no shape for a fight.
Guts Is a Danger to Himself in His Current State
Following Recent Devastation, Guts Is In No Shape to Fight
Following Casca's capture, Guts collapses out of despair, and remains locked away while the cast is in the presence of the Kushan. Despite all that he's endured throughout Berserk, Guts has never been in a state like the one he is currently in. Always bouncing back, using his seemingly unending pools of rage and hatred as fuel, the series' protagonist has been nearly invincible throughout the story. However, now that an apostle has made its presence known, the possibility exists that Guts will lose himself entirely to the Beast of Darkness.
When arriving at Elfhelm, the expense of the Berserker Armor's power was already evident in Guts; his body was covered in scars and his sight diminished in his remaining eye. In his current state, if he were to use the armor at its full capacity once more, there's no telling what damage may be caused. Berserk has arrived at a turning point, as war with Griffith is seemingly inevitable, and the price of victory may be too great to pay.
