Ridley Scott’s new sci-fi movie is getting closer to its big-screen release by the day, but there are still plenty of alternatives to The Dog Stars to check out on streaming before the film hits theaters this August. Scott is responsible for some of the most influential sci-fi masterpieces of all time, like Blade Runner, the 1982 cyber thriller starring Harrison Ford. Scott even returned to the world of Blade Runner some odd 30 years later than he produced Blade Runner 2049, the legacy sequel that returned Harrison Ford and also starred Ryan Gosling. More recently, some of Scott’s finer sci-fi works include The Martian and Alien: Romulus. He directed the former, which stars Matt Damon, but he only produced the latter while handing off directorial control to Fede Alvarez.

However, the most important movie of Scott’s career by far is Alien, the 1979 masterpiece that kicked off the Alien franchise, which is still going strong to this day. Scott even produced the most recent entry in the franchise, Alien: Earth, which also marked the first time Alien moved from the big to the small screen. Noah Hawley wrote and created the TV show after previously working on Fargo. Alien is not streaming anywhere in America or globally at the time of writing, but the film has re-entered the Apple TV global top 10 in several countries around the world. With its rising popularity, it likely won’t be long before it returns to one of the big streaming services. Alien grossed $109 million at the box office against an $11 million budget, and the film earned marks of 93% from critics and 94% from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes.

What Do We Know About Ridley Scott’s Next Movie?

Ridley Scott’s next movie, The Dog Stars, will now be released in theaters on August 28 after being delayed from its March 27 release date. This gives the film five more months to refine its VFX and ensure that it’s up to snuff for a theatrical premiere. Scott has recruited Josh Brolin and Margaret Qualley to star opposite lead Jacob Elordi in the film with a script from Mark L. Smith and Christopher Wilkinson. The Dog Stars is based on the book of the same name by Peter Heller.
