Becca Farsace Talks Leaving The Verge and Going Independent | The PetaPixel Podcast

1 week ago 8

Last week, former video producer at The Verge Becca Farsace published a video explaining why she left that job to pursue becoming an independent creator. Since her path is the opposite of the one Chris Niccolls and Jordan Drake chose, the three discuss the pros and cons of each direction on this week’s PetaPixel Podcast.

PetaPixel interviewed Farsace about why she left The Verge last week and she explained that it was a mix of the fallout from COVID as well as an experience she had when she started her own YouTube channel during lockdown.

“I got pulled into a meeting at The Verge and I was told that at any point in time, they could make me take down any videos they wanted and that I shouldn’t even be sure that I owned anything that was on any of my social media channels,” Farsace says.

“And that really scared me.”

That whole story and her video explaining her choice to go independent (above) should be considered “necessary background” before listening to this week’s podcast because the path Farsace chose is the opposite from the decision Niccolls and Drake made when DPReview told them they were out of a job last year. Instead of going independent, the two joined PetaPixel. In this week’s podcast, the three talk about the factors that led to each of their choices and the resulting discussion illuminates why there isn’t a “one size fits all” set of instructions for being a content creator in the modern era.
