Baywatch reboot savaged as a 'Hallmark movie' starring TikToker who 'can't act' as trailer drops: 'It's giving canceled after one season'

A trailer for the upcoming Baywatch reboot arrived Tuesday and was greeted with a roar of derision from viewers on social media.

Arrow heartthrob Stephen Amell stars as Hobie Buchannon, the grown son of the David Hasselhoff character Mitch Buchannon from the original series.

Hobie has now followed in his father's footsteps to become a lifeguard, with colleagues played by the likes of Pretty Little Liars bombshell Shay Mitchell, TikTok influencer Noah Beck and model turned reality star Brooks Nader.

The plot centers on Hobie's long-lost biological daughter Charlie, played by Jessica Belkin, who suddenly rematerializes in his life and asks to work for him.

Although the sneak peek was full of hat tips to fans of the 1990s show - including shots of the chiseled cast in their swimsuits running in slow motion across the beach - many viewers were left decidedly unimpressed.

One X user sniggered: 'it's giving cancelled after 1 season,' as others sighed: 'they're rebooting everything huh,' and: 'How many times can one series be re-done…'

Baywatch started life on NBC in 1989 and was famously canceled after one season before Hasselhoff resuscitated the project by helping get it into syndication, where it was able to explode into a ratings juggernaut in the 1990s.

Pamela Anderson, Yasmeen Bleeth, Carmen Electra, David Charvet, Nicole Eggert and Donna D'Errico were merely a few of the stars to emerge from the series.

The franchise has since sprouted the sequel show Baywatch: Hawaii, the spin-off Baywatch Nights and a trio of direct-to-video movies.

In 2017, a Baywatch film with a new cast including Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson, Zac Efron and Priyanka Chopra was released in theaters but failed both critically and commercially.

Now the reboot series has been raked over the coals thanks to the debut of the trailer, which included a blink-and-miss-it cameo by Megan Thee Stallion.

'I have to ask why? Who needed a “baywatch” reboot?' one viewer groaned, as another grumbled: 'the first baywatch ran for 11 seasons and now we get a reboot that looks like a hallmark movie with sirens. thats the industry we live in.'

Beck, 25, was heaped with particular scorn, as one X user observed that he 'is hot and all but really can’t act to save his life his persona online still seems like NOAH,' as another remarked more succinctly: 'Noah cannot act even if his life depends on it.'

'Is it AI?' one viewer wondered as others snorted: 'Looks horrible lol,' 'lol no thanks,' 'I'm already bored,' and: 'You knew it would be bad but…'

Pretty Little Liars bombshell Shay Mitchell is also among the cast of the series, as well as 25-yera-old TikTok star Noah Beck

'They are still trying to make this garbage come back?' one X user wrote incredulously, insisting: 'No one is interested in it'

However some viewers were more inclined to optimism, such as one who wrote: 'This looks way better than the movie they came out with a few years ago.'

A number of actors from the original series are reprising their old roles, such as Erika Eleniak - who made headlines by joining OnlyFans this August at the age of 56 - as well as Mary McDonnell and Kelly Packard.

Michael Bergin, whose romance with the late Carolyn Bessette made him a subject of renewed interest because of this year's Ryan Murphy series Love Story, is also stepping back into the Baywatch world after featuring on the classic 1990s program.
