Now, it has just returned in an entirely different medium, and it looks like a ton of fun if you have a few willing friends to hand.
Enemies of Gotham City is a brand-new board game from Upper Deck Entertainment that uses the Animated Series as it's background to deliver an area-control tabletop experience. In a bit of a twist, players take control of one of twelve iconic villains from the show, where the goal is to take control of one of Gotham's districts and stop the Batman in his tracks.
The full description of the product from the developer is as follows:
"Enemies of Gotham City is an area-control game based off the beloved show Batman: The Animated Series. Play as one of twelve unique asymmetric villains like The Joker, Harley Quinn, Mr. Freeze, and more in an effort to take control of Gotham City's districts. Make some cash, thwart Batman, and become the most infamous villain of them all.
"To do this, you have to plan out your moves and strategize, but you must also be adaptable; Gotham is in chaos, and your plans may not always go as intended! Wrestle for control of Gotham's districts with rival villains and out-think your opponents by using your power and weapons. Watch out for Batman and his allies, who are looking to bring peace to Gotham and send your goons to the Arkham Asylum cube tower!"
The game is set to release later this year, with more details on exactly when and where to follow relatively soon. The full offering is extremely comprehensive, with 165 playable cards, 84 building toppers, 22 figures, 100 tokens, a Cube Tower, and a whole lot more.
Though this isn't quite as exciting as a full on-screen return for Batman: The Animated Series, it's certainly nice to see that a show as iconic as that is still as beloved by many as it ever was. Hopefully, this new release can live up to that legacy in a major way to continue its stellar reputation among fans.
