Warning! This post contains SPOILERS for Absolute Batman #16

Few comic book vehicles are as iconic as Batman's Batmobile and its many variations. However, the newest issue of Absolute Batman saw the new Dark Knight trading his usual wheels for something far more mythic (and just as cool).

The Absolute Universe continues to reimagine classic DC heroes and foes in epic new ways. Case in point, the new Absolute Batman #16 by Scott Snyder and Nick Dragotta sees Bruce Wayne in a new team-up with Absolute Wonder Woman on a mission to help Waylon Jones' Killer Croc (a friend of Batman's in this alternate DC Universe).

The Absolute Universe's Batman And Wonder Woman Just Ventured Into Hell (Almost)

Absolute Batman and Wonder Woman Fighting Centaur

In this new issue of Absolute Batman, Bruce turns to Wonder Woman to help save Waylon and his recent Killer Croc transformation which continues to worsen. In response, Diana proposes an intense journey to a realm between the surface and the underworld itself.

After days of travel, Batman and Wonder Woman confront Akrolis, a powerful centaur and lord of transformation whose arrows have the power to reshape various creatures. Bruce and Diana are quite an impressive duo, though Absolute Batman does get kicked off the bridge into the abyss below. However, an unexpected arrival gave Batman a surprising new mode of transportation.

Batman Riding An All-Black Pegasus Is A Peak Moment For The Absolute Universe

Absolute Batman Riding Pegasus DC Comics

Remarkably, Absolute Batman is rescued by Pegasus himself near the end of this new issue. Typically Absolute Wonder Woman’s mount, the reanimated all-black skeleton of the legendary winged horse emerged from the clouds with Batman riding on his back, brutal bat-axe in hand.

It's objectively one of the Absolute Universe's coolest moments, one that's made even better considering Diana's earlier reveal that Pegasus finds most mortals unworthy. That means the horse specifically chose Absolute Batman, finding him a worthy warrior on par with Wonder Woman herself. In a realm suspended between the surface world and Hell itself, Pegasus sure beats a Batmobile (and he even came in black).

Absolute Batman #16 is on sale now from DC Comics.
