Jared is a writer, editor, and Communications Studies graduate who loves popular nerd culture (almost anything to do with Marvel, DC, Star Wars, or The Lord of the Rings) and the interactive storytelling medium. Jared's first console was the PS1, wherein he fell for Spider-Man, Spyro the Dragon, and Crash Bandicoot.

After more than half a decade, Batman: Arkham Knight is finally receiving the Deathstroke boss fight it never got, thanks to a comprehensive mod. This ambitious mod is still in development, but already looks incredibly promising and showcases the bones of a phenomenal Deathstroke boss fight, maybe even better than the one we got in Batman: Arkham Origins.

Thankfully, modder GPUnity has shared a YouTube video detailing how they’ve added a Deathstroke boss fight to Batman: Arkham Knight that actually lets players go toe-to-toe with the World’s Deadliest Assassin. This is part of a massive gameplay overhaul by GPUnity, and it currently has a release date of December 2026, assuming all goes accordingly.

Batman: Arkham Knight Is Getting A Real Deathstroke Fight

Despite Deathstroke’s boss fight in Batman: Arkham Origins being considered one of the best in the Arkham franchise, it’s more or less a reskin of the Ra’s al Ghul boss fight in Batman: Arkham City, albeit with a little more finesse and skill involved. This mod, however, makes Deathstroke a far scarier foe.

GPUnity’s Deathstroke boss fight isn’t complete, but what’s been shown thus far is fantastic. Essentially, instead of being a cinematic QTE simulator revolving almost entirely around the counter input, like in Batman: Arkham Origins, this fight is more along the lines of Marvel’s Spider-Man’s Taskmaster. Deathstroke assumes the attack animations of a League of Assassins enemy, is able to dodge every gadget thrown at him and evade when players try to jump over him, and adopts Azrael’s walk animation.

Batman: Arkham Knight is notorious for featuring a Deathstroke boss fight that failed to meet any player’s expectations. Because of how iconic and epic the Deathstroke boss fight is in Batman: Arkham Origins, which released only a couple of years before, it was highly disappointing to learn that Deathstroke would only be fought from the Batmobile.

Batman: Arkham Knight’s Batmobile was already divisive, and it soured the whole experience of trying to attain 100% completion in the GCPD holding cells when Deathstroke’s surprise endgame reveal culminated in a tank battle.

This Is All Thanks To Modders

GPUnity’s Batman: Arkham Knight project does a lot more than implement a Deathstroke boss fight. Still, this boss fight is precisely why mods are as beloved and sought-after as they are, as they can add unofficial content to satisfy what players felt was lacking.

Mods are always representative of what at least one modder wishes to see in a game, and it’s been evident since Batman: Arkham Knight’s launch that players have desperately wanted a more traditional Deathstroke boss fight. As it is, Batman tackles Deathstroke out of the air once Deathstroke’s tank is destroyed, and GPUnity’s gameplay overhaul mod is helping to rectify how lackluster that is to this day.
