Baldur's Gate 3 players looking for new content may be out of luck when it comes to official new updates from Larian Studios, who have officially moved on to their next major project in the Divinity franchise. However, there's plenty more to discover when it comes to Baldur's Gate 3 by way of the incredibly active modding community. And there's one new mod in particular that Baldur's Gate 3 players are keeping a close eye on with the extremely ambitious Cosmic Vessel mod.

The Cosmic Vessel expansion is an elaborate and exciting upcoming mod that's the closest thing players are going to get to an official new DLC, introducing a brand-new origin character named Saira with a fully developed backstory and questline that is incorporated seamlessly into the core BG3 gameplay loop. Further, the mod introduces the completely new Cosmic Vessel class with dedicated subclasses, adding hundreds of new spells, feats, weapons, armor, new locations, and more.

And after an official new update last week from the Cosmic Vessel team, Baldur's Gate 3 fans are counting down the days for this huge mod's official release (via Reddit).

Last week, the team over at CosmicVesselProject.com rolled out the official website alongside a massive new progress report update and stunning new showcase trailer detailing some of what players can expect when the mod fully launches. This included an in-depth look at the new origin character, Saira, her backstory, as well as a finalized look at the new Cosmic Vessel class and subclasses.

The showcase trailer unveiled just how far the team has come in a short amount of time, and Baldur's Gate 3 players are absolutely blown away by the progress they've made so far. "This looks fantastic," says witchking782, with players like No-Midnight244 echoing the sentiment, saying "Hot damn, this IS impressive! Looking forward to seeing more soon!"

Baldur's Gate 3 gamers such as fashionable_edgelord are absolutely floored, saying, "Wowza this looks astonishing," while arihndas can't believe modders are doing this out of passion alone: "This is… incredible. Thank you guys for having so much passion not just for the game but for the work involved in a project like this. Truly amazing to see what modders can create."

If you want to see what all the hype is about, there's a ton of new information in the most recent update for the Cosmic Vessel mod, including a detailed look at Saira and how she ended up on the Nautiloid. Further, the Cosmic Vessel class and subclasses will introduce a whole new dynamic to the game: "The Cosmic Vessel is a brand-new playable class for Baldur’s Gate 3, built around cosmic power, fractured identity, and the struggle between mortal will and something far older within." New subclasses include the following:

  • Chronographer — masters of time, momentum and battlefield manipulation
  • Astral Archivist — adaptive spellcraft through observation and preparation
  • Starcaller — a cosmic scimitar wielder tied to ancient constellations and forgotten legends
  • Essence — a dangerous high-risk subclass that sacrifices health for overwhelming power

While there's no official release date for the Cosmic Vessel mod just yet, fans will want to keep a watchful eye on the project by joining their Discord or keeping up to date with the recently launched website, which has a new recruitment page for modders/creatives looking to help out with the project. If you're looking for new Baldur's Gate 3 content that adds a completely new dynamic to the game, the Cosmic Vessel mod should absolutely be on your radar.
