Baldur's Gate 3: 10 Best Armor Pieces For Sorcerers

6 days ago 5

In Baldur's Gate 3, Sorcerers have various gear options to experiment with. Because the best equipment doesn't become available until Act 2 and 3, playing Sorcerer in Act 1 can feel like a bit of a slog, especially considering how long Act 1 is. This means that players will have to be more careful when playing Sorcerer, as they are generally not tanky and can be downed quite easily.

To prevent a Sorcerer from being downed, it's important to have reliable and consistent healing sources and access to Temporary Hitpoints. This can transform the Sorcerer into a pseudo-tank by overhealing their HP. While it is unfortunate that most of the best Sorcerer gear becomes available later in the game, Sorcerers can still dish out a lot of damage at early levels.

10 Cloak Of The Weave

Bonus to Spell Attack Rolls

Cloak of The Weave (Sorcerer) Baldur's Gate 3

The Cloak of the Weave can be bought or stolen in Act 3 from the vendor Helsik, the owner of the Devil's Fee in the Lower City. This cloak provides a +1 to Spell Save DC and Spell Attack Rolls. It also comes with the Absorb Elements Reaction, which halves the damage from an elemental attack and applies 1d6 of said element on your next weapon attack.

This cloak is an excellent option for all Sorcerers, no matter the subclass you're using in BG3, as it will increase the likelihood of spells landing Critical Hits and forcing enemies to fail Saving Throws. For example, this cloak is perfect for spellcasters that utilize Hold Person in order to set up damage from the party's Martials. And, most notably for the Sorlock multiclass, this cloak is perfect for Eldritch Blast as it increases the chance of it connecting to its target.

9 Ring of Regeneration

Consistent Source of Healing

Ring of Regeneration Baldur's Gate 3

The Ring of Regeneration can be bought or stolen from Sorcerous Sundries in Act 3. At the start of every turn while in combat, this ring heals the wearer for 1d4 HP. This ring is a great choice for nearly all characters, but I recommend it for Sorcerers, who generally find it more difficult to stay alive than other classes.

To make this ring as powerful as possible, pair it with the Periapt of Wound Closure to receive 4 HP of healing every turn.

Sorcerers have one of the lowest HP gains per level of all the classes in Baldur's Gate 3. However, the auto-healing functionality of this ring means that the Sorcerer can self-revive themselves if they are downed. This is an outstanding quality-of-life change for a class that is squishy.

Invaluable Defensive Tool

The Ring of Blink can be acquired from the Tressym, Tara, in Rivington on the roof of the Open Hand Temple, as shown by Raaz1312 in the video above. This ring allows the wearer to cast the Blink spell once per Long Rest. The Blink spell lasts 10 turns and is one of the Sorcerer's most powerful defensive options.

At the end of the wearer's turn, a D20 is rolled, and if the roll is 11 or higher, the wearer will vanish into the Ethereal Plane, where it can't be harmed, seen, or affected. While in this plane, the Sorcerer can reposition with impunity, as enemies will not be able to inflict damage. However, at the end of each turn, there is a chance that this effect will end.

7 Spellcrux Amulet

Refund High-Level Spells

Spellcrux Amulet Baldur's Gate 3

The Spellcrux Amulet can be looted in Act 2 from The Warden in Moonrise Towers. This is the same area where the player can rescue the Tieflings and Wulbren Bongle, the leader of the Ironhand Gnomes. This amulet grants the user Spell Slot Restoration, which allows the wearer to restore a single spell slot of any level once per Long Rest.

Spells like Disintegrate, Chain Lightning, and Globe of Invulnerability are great options for utilizing this amulet.

To use this amulet most effectively, it should not actually be equipped while in combat. It is a swap item, which means it should be used after casting a Level 6 spell, which can be refunded by using this amulet. Make use of a different amulet while in combat, as this amulet provides no benefit during a battle.

6 Amulet of Greater Health

Bolster HP and Concentration

Amulet of Greater Health (Sorcerer) Baldur's Gate 3

The Amulet of Greater Health is found very late in the game within Raphael's House of Hope, within the Archive. Convince the Archivist that you belong there in order to explore the Archive at your leisure. The amulet can be found on a pedestal on the right side of the Archive, guarded by a trap.

If the player decides to use this amulet, they should respec at Withers and put the extra Stat points into Charisma, Dexterity, and Wisdom.

The Amulet of Greater Health sets the wearer's Constitution score to 23 and Advantage on Concentration Saving Throws. This is invaluable for Sorcerers that utilize Twinned Metamagic, as they can Haste two party members with less fear of losing concentration. Many of Sorcerer's most powerful spells rely on maintaining concentration, so this item is necessary to become a full-fledged Sorcerer.

5 Helldusk Boots

Deal Damage With Misty Step

The Helldusk Boots can be looted from a chest in Act 3 on the top floor of Wyrm's Rock Fortress after defeating BG3's Lord Enver Gortash. For the exact location, you can use Steel Wind's video as a reference if you're unable to find them. The Helldusk Boots grant the wearer Steadfast, which means they cannot be forcibly moved by a foe's spells or actions, and the reaction Infernal Evasion acts as a guaranteed Saving Throw once per Long Rest. The boots also come with a unique version of Misty Step called Hellcrawler that deals 2d8 Fire damage in a radius where the user lands.

These boots are essentially a direct upgrade of the Disintegrating Night Walkers and are especially effective on characters that have Fire resistance. This is because Hellcrawler will damage the wearer as well, which Fire resistance can mitigate. Also, Infernal Evasion will allow Sorcerers to maintain concentration during a crucial moment, keeping the tide of battle in the player's favor.

4 Spellmight Gloves

Great Weapon Master For Sorcerers

The Spellmight Gloves are given to the player in Act 3 as a reward from Lucretious at the end of the Find Dribbles the Clown questline. If you're having trouble finding the clown body parts, use Wizard Worm's video above to speed up the process. The Spellmight Gloves can also be pickpocketed from Lucretious if the player wishes to avoid searching the city for Dribbles' body parts. These gloves grant the wearer the Spellmight passive, which can be toggled on and off to grant bonus damage on a Spell Attack Roll but have a -5 Penalty to the roll.

These gloves essentially act as a Great Weapon Master feat, but for magic, which can drastically increase a character's DPS. Using the spell Magic Missile in conjunction with these boots is incredibly powerful, as Magic Missile is guaranteed to hit, so the -5 penalty to Attack Rolls is ignored. Make sure to note when this passive is toggled on or off, as there will be instances where it is better to toggle it off to ensure the attack lands.

3 Hood Of The Weave

Increase Spell Save DC

Hood of the Weave Baldur's Gate 3

The Hood of the Weave can be bought or looted in Act 3 from Mystic Carrion inside Philgrave's Mansion. This hood grants the wearer a +2 bonus to Spell Save DC and Spell Attack Rolls, which is double the effectiveness of the Cloak of the Weave. As such, using these pieces of gear together grants the wearer a +3 to Spell Save DC and Spell Attack Rolls.

With the massive bonus to Spell Attack Rolls, utilizing the Spellmight Gloves is far less risky, as these bonuses can offset the -5 penalty received from the Spellmight passive. This hood can make or break certain fights, as Sorcerers must be meticulous with their attacks as they generally only have one action per turn. As a result, it is imperative that Sorcerers find gear to increase the likelihood of hitting their target.

2 Birthright

Free Charisma ASI

Birthright (Sorcerer) Baldur's Gate 3

The Birthright hat can be bought or stolen in Act 3 from Sorcerous Sundries in BG3. It grants the wearer a +2 to Charisma, essentially acting as a free Ability Score Increase. This hat can increase Charisma to 22, which is normally impossible when relying on level-ups alone.

Use the Mirror of Loss in the House of Grief to further increase Charisma by +2 in order to reach 24 Charisma.

With such a high Charisma stat, the Sorlock multiclass benefits the most due to the Agonising Blast Eldritch Invocation, which adds the user's Charisma modifier to the Eldritch Blast cantrip's damage. Only two levels of Warlock are required to get Agonising Blast, so I strongly recommend doing this. This can be extraordinarily useful for managing Spell Slot resources, as Eldritch Blast is a cantrip and costs no resources.

1 Potent Robe

Increase Cantrip Damage

Potent Robe Baldur's Gate 3

The Potent Robe can be acquired in Act 2 from Alfira after rescuing the Tieflings from Moonrise Towers Prison. This means that without exploiting the game, this robe is unobtainable in a Dark Urge playthrough due to Alfira's death. As a result, I don't recommend using the Sorlock multicass on a Dark Urge playthrough, as this robe is essential for the build to work.

Other Chest Clothing Options

Robes of Supreme Defenses

While Concentrating, add your Spellcasting Ability Modifier to your Saving Throws and gain +1 to AC

Wavemother's Robes

Resistance to Fire and Cold Damage If the wearer is standing in water at the start of their turn, they heal for 1d4 HP Level 4: Create or Destroy Water +1 to AC

Moon Devotion Robe

While the wearer has Mage Armour, each successful Saving Throw causes the source of the Saving Throw to take 1d4 Radiant damage. Advantage on Constitution Saving Throws Saving Throws +1 Level 1: Lunar Bulwark Produce Flame Cantrip

Gregarious Caster stacks with Agonising Blast, making Eldritch Blast deal absurd amounts of damage.

The Potent Robe grants the user +1 to Armour Class as well as the passive Gregarious Caster, which makes Cantrips deal additional damage equal to the wearer's Charisma modifier. This robe also grants the wearer Temporary Hitpoints equal to their Charisma modifier at the start of the wearer's turn. With these items in hand, Sorcerer players should have little to no problem steamrolling the entirety of Baldur's Gate 3.
