The awkward moment Matthew McConaughey called out an Australian reporter for a glaring mistake during an interview has gone viral.

The resurfaced video was shared by Pedestrian.TV editor Matt Galea, who interviewed the Hollywood star in 2021 ahead of the release of his movie Sing 2.

Galea started the interview by introducing himself to McConaughey.

'Hi Matt, I'm Matt Galea from Pedestrian.TV in Australia. Thanks for chatting with me,' he said.

But McConaughey immediately put his finger up in the air and corrected Galea on his name.

'Matthew, please,' the actor responded.

In 2017, McConaughey revealed on Jimmy Kimmel Live! why he never goes by the name Matt.

'I was in kindergarten...My buddy Josh Griffin says, "hey Matt, you want to go play on the monkey bars?" And I ran out and said, "yeah!"

'And halfway to the monkey bars, I feel this hand on my shoulder [which] slammed me to the ground.

'I look up, and it’s my mother in my face, and she’s like, "what are you doing?" I said, "I’m going to play the monkey bars with Josh." She says, "Who is?" I said, "I am."

'She said, "What’s your name?" I said, "Matthew." She says, "Don’t you ever answer to Matt again. I named you Matthew from the Bible." I was like, "Yes, ma’am!"'

It comes after McConaughey fans were left drooling over a throwback photo of the famous actor which recently resurfaced on the internet.

Last week, the actor's 1989 fraternity photo was posted on X and proved that he's always had the appearance of a Hollywood star, even when he was a student at the University of Texas in Austin.

In the snap, the Dallas Buyers Club actor - who was 20 at the time - sports blond coiffed hair and was dressed in a crisp white shirt, navy blazer and patterned tie as he grinned from ear-to-ear.

People were quick to comment on the photo as one person pondered: 'This man never had an awkward phase did he?'

A second person said: 'Damn. Most of us looked like acne-ridden needs and this guy looks like this? Unfair!'

A third commented, 'This man been fine his whole life. God bless him,' and a fourth simply said: 'He's so hot.'

A fifth joked: 'Dude was really just walking around high school looking like a f**king masterpiece. Like, damn!'

'He was and still is so fine,' someone else remarked, while another described McConaughey as 'absolutely perfect.'

A different person declared him the 'most attractive man of all time,' and another agreed and wrote: 'He is one very cute man.'
