The official Lego recreation trailer is a shot-for-shot remake of Doomsday's first full trailer, which was first released at the end of July. Just as with the real trailer, it sets the stage for a multiversal conflict that includes the Avengers, the Fox-era X-Men, and the Fantastic Four. It also gives fans their first real look at Robert Downey Jr.'s Doctor Doom in all his menacing glory. One unexpected benefit of the Lego trailer is that it has far fewer chaotic visual effects than its live-action counterpart, meaning in some scenes it is easier to identify every character that appears.
The Lego trailer happens to be three seconds shorter than the original trailer, but don't start theorizing. The only thing the Lego trailer doesn't have is the countdown clock to the movie's release, which accounts for the shorter runtime. Even if this doesn't reveal new information about Doomsday, it is a fun way to experience a trailer fans have likely rewatched hundreds of times at this point. It is also equally charming and impressive to see how faithful the recreation is, down to the characters' facial expressions. It brings to mind the excellent Lego segment in 2023's Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.
When does Avengers: Doomsday release?
Marvel will release Avengers: Doomsday in theaters on Dec. 18. Unfortunately for cinephiles (and Disney), Dune: Part 3 will play in IMAX theaters when it is released on the same day. Fans looking for the best way to watch Doomsday will want to see the film in Disney's new Infinity Vision format, which isn't IMAX, but may come close. Avengers: Secret Wars, the Endgame to Doomsday's Infinity War, will be released next December, and is already confirmed for IMAX theaters.
Fans will get another sneak peek at Doomsday with Marvel's rerelease of Avengers: Endgame, which will include new footage of the 2019 film.
