EXCLUSIVE: Don Argott and Sheena M. Joyce‘s 9.14 Pictures has entered production on an untitled Bob Saget documentary celebrating the life of the late comic, actor and filmmaker.
Directed by Argott and Joyce, the film explores the duality of a man known to millions as America’s dad on television, while simultaneously being a raw and unfiltered stand-up comic on stage. Built from intimate access to family and fellow comics, rare home videos and never-before-seen footage, the film will reveal the complex life, devastating losses and enduring kindness behind the laughter.
Word of the Saget doc comes just over four years following his sudden death. The film is produced by Story Syndicate, Revue Studios and 9.14 Pictures.
9.14 comes to the project on the heels of record-setting success with Taylor Swift: The End of an Era, their docuseries chronicling Swift’s Eras Tour, which since launching in December has become Disney+’s most-watched documentary series of all time. This follows the company’s success with Kelce, the doc examining NFL star Jason Kelce’s retirement considerations during the 2022-23 season, which became Prime Video’s most-watched documentary film ever in the U.S. upon its September 2023 release.
“These films couldn’t be more different in subject, tone, or audience,” Argott noted. “What connects them is access, trust, and the belief that real stories — told with craft and respect — can still reach massive audiences.”
Amid their success with the Swift docuseries, the company has enlisted Dan Perri, the title designer behind the iconic Star Wars opening crawl and myriad other classic designs, to create a new logo for 9.14, which you can view above.
Argott and Joyce are represented by CAA.
