Anna Wintour has announced she will be heading Down Under next year for an exclusive Vogue fashion event – but some Aussie fans believe there could be another reason behind her trip.

The veteran Vogue editor-in-chief, who stepped down from the role last year after 37 years, recently appeared in a social media clip for the Australian division of the famed magazine, where she made a special announcement.

'Hello, this is Anna Wintour, speaking to you from Paris! I am so excited to be coming to Australia next year, on February third,' she began.

'To join Forces of Fashion at the Sydney Opera House. I look forward to seeing you there.'

The exclusive event will be a half-day summit bringing together some of the biggest names in fashion, with Wintour among the industry heavyweights sharing their insights with guests.

Aussie fans took to the comments section to joke that it was suspicious that the event's timing came just days after the Australian Open – of which Wintour is a big fan.

'She doesn't care about Aussie fashion,' one fan sniped.

'Tennis of course is the real reason she is visiting Australia,' another added.

Meanwhile, the Australian Open's official page posted a cheeky side-eyes emoji.

'Tennis before couture - that's your TRUE passion,' someone else wrote.

Wintour is a huge tennis fan and has previously travelled to Melbourne to attend the annual Australian Open, held in January each year.

She never packs lightly for the trips, with the most famous fashion editor in the world frequently displaying her trademark style at the event.

In 2019, Wintour stunned fans by wearing two glamorous outfits on the same day.

The London-born media executive has also been spotted chatting to her A-list friends at previous events, including Nicole Kidman and Baz Luhrmann.
