An Australian influencer has found herself rejected from a local pool during a family trip to France

Lauren Lakin, who shares lifestyle and travel content for her 54,000 Instagram followers, related the woeful tale in a reel shared this week.

The 40-year-old attempted to take her husband and three children for a dip at a pool close to her Airbnb accommodation but was refused entry for an unusual reason.

The family were told that her husband, Kit, and her son, who were wearing boardshorts for their dip, were not dressed appropriately.

'We just got rejected by the local pool. There's a pool that is right near our Airbnb. We went to go in and they wouldn't allow Kit to wear swim shorts. No board shorts,' Lauren said in the clip.

Kit then chimed in, revealing he was advised he had to wear much more revealing swimwear, in the form of 'Euro shorts or speedos.'

'They must be skin tight and hugging the genitalia to allow you into the pool,' Kit joked.

'These are too conservative apparently,' he added, showing his striped boardshorts.

'I don't know about being too conservative but that's the rule, so just be warned, maybe pack some of those,' Lauren said.

'They have a vending machine there where we can buy them'.

Lauren explained that her young son was also wearing boardshorts and likewise was not allowed to swim.

'It was just the boys, the girls could wear whatever, but the boys had to wear the speedos,' she added.

The social media star further elaborated in her caption alongside the reel: 'Pack your budgie smugglers if you're heading to France. We looked up why this is the rule, it's due to hygiene reasons.

'Apparently board shorts are worn outside and in other public places whereas swimmers are only worn at the pool, therefore more hygienic.'

She continued: 'It's also been the French tradition for years, so I can respect that! Totally going to get Kit some Euro shorts this week before we attempt the pool again.'

Lauren then asked her followers:  'Did you know this about France?'

Many supported the rule in Lauren's comments section, with one person saying: 'Your husband isn't wearing a swim suit. Those are walking shorts. Also, there are dozens of YouTube videos that talk about what to expect when travelling. Your pool drama should have come as no surprise. Maybe plan better.'

Another said: 'Proper pool hygiene. An incredible amount of boys and men wear their normal underwear under those shorts or never change and use them as streetwear and also never properly pre-shower. I wish it was like this everywhere.'

'Our French friends said it was a hygiene thing because blokes would wear underpants under their board shorts and they don't like this,' one more person said.

Another person commented: 'So buy two pairs from the vending machine and have a nice time with the family rather than complain and make this video.'

Someone else said: 'It's for cleanliness, they consider that if you're wearing them on the street, they won't be clean for the pool.'
