Since its inception back in 2007, the Assassin's Creed franchise has become a cornerstone of the gaming sphere. With 14 mainline entries, including multiple spin-offs, mobile games, and even a live-action movie, the Ubisoft franchise has taken players all across the globe and to multiple periods throughout history. However, it is lucky that history has gone on for quite a while, allowing Ubisoft to never run out of ideas when it comes to the next Assassin's Creed entry. Although the next installment, Assassin's Creed Hexe, is set to take us to the 16th-century Holy Roman Empire, many fans might have missed the time that the Assassin's Creed franchise showed us just a glimpse of World War II in action.

It was back in Assassin's Creed's eighth installment, Assassin's Creed Unity, where players were treated to what a title could look like if it was set during the World War II conflict. You may be thinking, wasn't Assassin's Creed Unity set during the French Revolution, which took place between 1789 and 1799 whilst World War II lasted from 1939 to 1945? You would be correct. However, during a Helix Rift mission that can be undertaken as side content in Assassin's Creed Unity, players are able to climb the Eiffel Tower and fend off fighter planes as bombs rain down in Paris.

As such, one fan took to r/assassinscreed a few years ago to say, "I've been playing Unity these days, and boy, the WW2 segment caught me by surprise. Really, Unity is a great game, although the story is kinda slow (until the moment, I'm in sequence 8), but those Helix Rift missions are amazing, especially the WW2 one where we have to climb the Eiffel Tower while the fighter planes attack you. Makes you think how an AC in WW2 would be, though it probably wouldn't work out because there isn't anything stealthy about the World War. But it's still an interesting idea. What do you guys think?"

In recent days, one Twitter/X user shared a clip of the WW2 mission in question, saying, "I've always loved how Ubisoft just shoved World War II OUT OF NOWHERE into a French Revolution game, and it turned out absolutely PERFECT."

Despite the Reddit user claiming that a World War II setting in Assassin's Creed would not make sense due to the franchise's focus on stealth, it is untrue that stealth was not needed during the conflict. As such, it could make sense for a future entry to take us to this important period of history, especially with the more recent Assassin's Creed entries having an action-heavy focus. As such, fellow fans took to the Twitter comments to share their thoughts.

"An Assassin's Creed set in World War II or World War I is something I'd find really f***ing cool," one shared. "One in the Wild West too, and that one almost happened, but it got canceled." However, another user pointed out an interesting tidbit. "Apparently they wanted the story to take place over multiple times periods (medieval, revolution, WW2, modern), hence the name Unity, but due to time constraints had to pick one era. They repurposed these eras for the rifts so as not to totally waste the assets." As such, we could see these assets used again in the future.

For now, Assassin's Creed fans can look forward to Assassin's Creed Hexe and the newly announced Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag Resynced, but as for what the future holds for the beloved Ubisoft franchise, remains to be seen.
