Assassin's Creed: Echoes Across Realms Officially Released

The next step in the Assassin's Creed franchise is supposedly the release of Project Hexe, which originally had a heavy focus on witches, though rumors suggest there may have been a change of direction on the magic front. That's unfortunately probably still some time away, though, but that doesn't mean we won't be able to see some of our favorite characters from the series in the meantime.

Over the years, the series has brought us some truly memorable protagonists, from the earliest days of Altair, all the way up to the modern RPG games. Now, they're about to crop up somewhere entirely new, and it might help tide you over while we wait to hear more about the next mainline release in the single-player franchise.

As first reported by CBR.com, high-fantasy, tactical role-playing game Watcher of Realms previously announced an official collaboration with Assassin's Creed, and that's finally set to go live today. As part of that, five of the series' best protagonists are set to appear, as Eivor, Kassandra, Bayek, Evie Frye, and Ezio Auditore become playable.

If you aren't familiar with Watcher of Realms, the game essentially blends real-time tower defense mechanics with hero collection. In the case of our new characters, all five of them will be doing their best to reclaim the corrupted power of the Demon Tide before the crisis on the continent of Tya gets any worse.

This time around, they are also coming with a new mode called Assassin's Code, which draws on our characters' skills in stealth and timing to progress. The new roster also slots in and fights alongside the game's existing pantheon of characters, including Anubis, Surtr and Hades.

Kassandra actually seems to be the character that's taking center stage (and you'll get no arguments from me), as the official event description reads:

"Through Kassandra’s eyes, two worlds collide. Ezio Auditore joins forces with the Avenging Empress and Frostbourne Leviathan as heroes of Watcher of Realms unite against Anubis. To the enemy before her—and those pulling the strings beyond: Meet her army! Assassin’s Creed, your Misthios now stands at the heart of a war spanning worlds."

Other than that, we just have to sit tight and wait to hear what Ubisoft has planned for the Assassin's Creed franchise next. Things have been difficult at the company in recent months, so the future doesn't look particularly good, but it's a huge company that still has the potential to deliver great games, if they put IPs in the right hands.
