Asajj Ventress and Cad Bane Are the Stars of Star Wars‘ Next Animated Anthology

3 days ago 3

The next Star Wars animated anthology is here, and it’s going to bring two Clone Wars favorites back into the limelight.

Today Lucasfilm confirmed that Tales of the Underworld will be the next entry in the Tales anthology format, which has previously explored the stories of the Jedi and the time of the Empire. This time around, the criminal underworld gets a spotlight through the lenses of the returned Asajj Ventress and Duros bounty hunter Cad Bane.

The twinned stories will follow Ventress after her return from death in the 2015 book Dark Disciple, as she tries to navigate life after the Clone Wars and during the reign of the Galactic Empire—and seemingly pick up an unlikely new ally in the form of a young Force-sensitive child, on the run from the Imperial Inquisitorius. Meanwhile, Bane’s side of things will take us back into the bounty hunter’s past, as he confronts an old close friend that has since turned to the side of law enforcement.

Presumably, Underworld will run six episodes long—three episodes apiece for Ventress and Bane. But hopefully now that we’re well into the swing of things with this Tales anthology series, it can find a better balance between the stories it wants to tell, in the time it wants to tell them—things that both Tales of the Jedi and Tales of the Empire before it struggled with, even when shining at their best.

Star Wars: Tales of the Underworld will stream on Disney+ May 4.
