As Blizzard continues its private server takedown spree, dataminers may have uncovered what's next for World of Warcraft: Classic

World of Warcraft dataminers may have discovered the next big reveal for Classic WoW - just months before BlizzCon, where a major announcement for the game has been teased.

As reported by WoWhead, heroic and epic licenses for "World of Warcraft Camelot" have been found by dataminer Stiven. These files appear separate from the modern version of World of Warcraft. This leaves Classic WoW as the likeliest version of the game to receive an update.

As this new information comes after the discovery of a mysterious patch 1.6 for Classic WoW on an encrypted vendor build of the game, the dominant belief is that Camelot is the much-anticipated Classic Plus.

For years, Classic World of Warcraft players have been fantasising of an expanded version of the original game - much like how Jagex built upon Old School RuneScape alongside the modern version of the game. And recent actions taken by Blizzard have indicated its existence.

For one, Blizzard has cheekily teased a big reveal for Classic World of Warcraft at this year's BlizzCon: in January this year, executive producer Holly Longdale was playfully cut off during the State of Azeroth presentation when saying Classic WoW players have "a lot to look forward to" in regards to a certain announcement.

There has also been a continuous string of World of Warcraft private server shutdowns. Private servers for Classic World of Warcraft have existed for years, and have been largely left alone until relatively recently. This trend of shutting down Classic WoW servers has led some to believe Blizzard is clearing the board for its own expanded iteration on Classic WoW.

Earlier this week, for instance, Blizzard issued a cease-and-desist against Ascension WoW, a private twist that totally overhauls aspects of the base game (such as its classless approach to characters). On top of that, roughly two months ago, Blizzard won an injunction against Turtle WoW, another popular Classic WoW private server, which was ordered to shut down as a result.

Ultimately the validity of these recent datamines will be proven in the coming months. BlizzCon has a history of big reveals, and if Classic Plus really is on the horizon, we'll likely know this September.
