As a phones expert I’m telling you not to buy an iPhone until the Black Friday deals arrive

With the Black Friday deals looming and some early ones likely to go live rather soon, I think it’s a really good time to keep an eye out for a great iPhone deal.

Specifically, I’m thinking of the iPhone 16 series, which should also include the iPhone 16e. The standard iPhone 16 has already received a price cut as the iPhone 17 series is now Apple’s darling smartphone.

And while both the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max have been discontinued, given my years of covering both phones and deals, I’d place a very solid bet we’ll see those phones pop up with retailers like Amazon, Best Buy, Currys, and others at cut prices, with such stores likely looking to move inventory.

Now I’m a sucker for anything new, but taking myself out of the tech journalism bubble, I can fully appreciate that all the iPhone 16 models are still some of the best phones you can buy today. In fact, I’m still using my iPhone 16 Pro Max while I get around to fully transferring over to an iPhone 17; it’s hard to give up on such a capable phone that ‘just works’ for everything I need from a mobile device.

So I think with a bit of savvy shopping and deals spotting, in which TechRadar is here to help, grabbing an iPhone 16 Pro model during or even before Black Friday and Cyber Monday, could be one of the smartest and most cost-effective ways to get an iOS-based phone that’ll run Apple Intelligence, console-quality games, offer superb photography and still top-notch video capture.

I’ve said before how I feel that recent iPhones have gotten to a level where it feels like there’s not much more that can be added to make a significant difference to their experience and capabilities, at least on the Pro phone side. As such, I think opting for a last-generation iPhone, particularly the Pro models, for a great price might be one of the most sensible tech moves of the year.
