Ark: Ultimate Mobile Edition's Ragnarok Map Update Explained

4 hours ago 10

Ark: Ultimate Mobile Edition has entered its next stage with the addition of the popular Ragnarok map and everything it includes. Ark: Ultimate Mobile Edition and its features are a toned-down version of the beloved prehistoric survival game for mobile devices. The modern mobile version has only been around for a few months, but its success can partially be attributed to the ease of use this version offers. While it has certain limitations, it's more widely accessible than its PC or console counterparts.

Though the Ark franchise has had its fair share of controversy, both Ark: Survival Ascended and Ark: Ultimate Mobile Edition continue to receive frequent updates. The only downside for Ark lately has been the continued delays for the highly-anticipated sequel. At this point, it seems like the future of Ark 2 might lie in Ark: Survival Ascended, but there's always a possibility that the sequel will re-emerge in the future.

What Ark: Ultimate Mobile Edition’s Ragnarok Map Includes

A Norse Survival Experience

Ragnarok is one of the most beloved community-created maps in the franchise, and the mobile version brings over all of its familiar strengths. To start, the map has a Norse theme, so many of the new creatures/variants play around this. A few examples of this include the Ice Wyvern, Iceworm, and Griffon.

These cross-platform mods are the best for Ark: Survival Ascended, and will make the game a lot more fun to play regardless of platform.

Ragnarok also adds four new unique dungeons with challenging new bosses. These include the Spirit Dire Bear, Spirit Dire Wolf, Iceworm Queen, and Lava Elemental. Only the latter two bosses feature in the trailer, but it would seem unlikely that the other two would be cut from the mobile version of Ragnarok without any explanation.

Outside the unique creatures, Ragnarok does not add anything else new. At the time of its release, it had everything from the base game along with Scorched Earth. This is likely to be the case with the mobile edition, but the possibility does exist that engrams from later expansions that fit Ragnarok, could be implemented.

Ragnarok Is Different From Other Ark Maps

A Unique Exploration

Ragnarok's map design is what truly separates it from the others in the franchise. The map stands at 144 square kilometers and is around four times the size of The Island. It's not the most diverse in terms of biomes, as it only has forest, snow, and mountainous regions, but it makes up for that in other ways.

Ragnarok is filled with creative Norse-inspired structures and Easter eggs to explore. The map also features a handful of puzzles to solve, which provide an alternative way to earn some of the Artifacts without needing to fight bosses. This offers those who do not enjoy boss fights as much a way to gain some extra strength before battles.

Ark: Ultimate Mobile Edition’s Love Evolved Event

A Lovely Event

Along with the release of Ragnarok, Ultimate Mobile Edition will see the Valentine's event Love Evolved run for about a week. This event comes with a horde of cosmetic goodies, variant creatures, and some stat boosts. As far as cosmetics go, players can expect many items to be re-themed around the holiday and creatures to get a pink recolor. These recolors make them look more friendly, but they will retain all their regular attributes.

Ark: Survival Ascended's first official partner DLC from the talented Nekatus is almost here, but it only adds to Ark's frustrating release trend.

Outside of cosmetics, there are a few event items and creatures that make an experience. The creatures are all just variants and also themed around the holiday. However, the event items can be extremely helpful, like the Box o' Chocolates. This item can be force-fed to a wild creature to instantly give it 50% taming progress, and this year it is gaining the extra effect of reducing mating cooldown by 20%. Using these items properly can make for a huge jumpstart for new adventures or a beneficial boost for pre-existing runs.

In conjuction with Ark: Ultimate Mobile Edition's Love Evolved event, Ark: Survival Ascended is running a Love Ascended event.

Overall, Ragnarok coming to the mobile edition is a huge step for Ark. The Norse map is expected to launch in Ascended later this year, and this could be a good test for it. Still, for the mobile edition, it is a good thing to see that it is getting content quickly, and even if this does slow down, it offers plenty of gameplay. Thus, this is everything to expect from the Ragnarok update for Ark: Ultimate Mobile Edition.
