Aptos integrates Circle’s CCTP V2 for rapid USDC transfers

Aptos has activated Circle’s Cross-Chain Transfer Protocol V2, upgrading its USDC infrastructure from a system that took minutes to one that settles in seconds. The integration, which went live on August 26, connects Aptos to roughly nine other blockchains, including Ethereum and Solana, through more than 90 capital-efficient transfer routes.

How CCTP V2 works on Aptos

At its core, CCTP V2 uses a burn-and-mint mechanism. When a user sends USDC from one chain to Aptos, the tokens are burned on the source chain and minted as native USDC on Aptos. No wrapped tokens, no IOUs sitting in a bridge contract. The USDC that shows up on Aptos is the real thing, issued directly by Circle.

Perhaps the more consequential feature is what Circle calls “programmable hooks.” These allow developers to attach automated on-chain actions to incoming USDC transfers. Think of it like setting up a rule: when USDC arrives, immediately deposit it into a lending protocol, or swap it into another asset, or route it to a treasury wallet. The transfer and the action happen in a single flow rather than requiring the recipient to manually execute a second transaction.

The path from bridged tokens to native USDC

Aptos didn’t always have native USDC. Before Circle’s direct support, the network relied on lzUSDC, a bridged version of the stablecoin routed through LayerZero. At launch, over $120M in lzUSDC was circulating on the network.

Native USDC arrived on Aptos mainnet on January 30, 2025. Circle launched CCTP V2 across its supported networks on March 11, 2025, and by November 2025, V2 had become the canonical protocol version. The older V1 began its phase-out on July 31, 2026.

What this means for Aptos and the broader DeFi landscape

For developers building on Aptos, programmable hooks open up design space that didn’t previously exist. Automated liquidity rebalancing across chains, instant collateral deposits for lending protocols triggered by incoming transfers, and treasury management tools that move funds without human intervention all become possible without custom bridge infrastructure.

No significant market reaction has accompanied the integration, which tracks with the nature of the upgrade. Infrastructure improvements rarely move token prices on their own.
