Respawn Entertainment announced it has banned over 200,000 accounts since June 2024 in their ongoing efforts to curb cheating in Apex Legends. The developer states it’s currently averaging 100,000 accounts banned every month.

The developer has also bolstered their team to offer 24/7 support for players who report cheating issues. So far, there have been more than 6 million accounts that have been banned in Apex Legends since the game’s launch in 2019.

Apex Legends has been a rollercoaster ride lately for the fans. EA’s Respawn Entertainment has been constantly churning out new content, including limited-time game modes, new maps, and new legends. At the same time, there has been a consistent influx of new paid cosmetics coming to the multiplayer character-based shooter game.

While that sounds like a healthy live-service game, there has been an increasingly frustrating atmosphere among players who have felt that Respawn has prioritized coming up with new paid content instead of fixing up gameplay issues.

The new battle pass system received enough pushback (and negative reviews on Steam) for Respawn to roll back slightly on it, but players were still looking for answers for one of the most problematic aspects of any online, competitive shooter game: cheaters.

Players have long been asking Respawn Entertainment to deal with cheaters, with the situation so problematic at one time that even the official North American finals of the Apex Legends Global Series (ALGS) suffered an incident where pro players had their accounts hacked during a match, leading to the postponement of the finals.

Now, with Respawn providing updates on their efforts, players do have an insight into the work being done by the developers to curb cheating in Apex Legends. While the update does not spell out that everything is fixed, the transparency and promise for better times ahead are welcomed.
