“The Boys” baddie Antony Starr will next star in a scripted Netflix series titled “Breakers,” from the creator of “Somewhere Boy” and production company behind “Baby Reindeer.”
“Breakers” follows two best friends from America who go on a backpacking trip in Australia. There, they encounter a seemingly perfect community of surfers and are drawn in by its leader, a charismatic and mysterious figure named Brando (Starr).
Production on the series has already begun in Western Australia, and filming will wrap in June. “Breakers” marks the first Netflix series to shoot in Western Australia and is supported by local tax incentives.
Pete Jackson (“The Death of Bunny Munro,” “Somewhere Boy”) is the writer on the series, which will be directed by Mary Nighy (“Say Nothing,” “Industry”) and Ng Choon Ping (“What It Feels Like For A Girl,” “Femme”).
The show is produced by the BBC Studios-owned Clerkenwell Films, which was behind “Baby Reindeer” and “The End Of The F***ing World.” The show is produced in partnership with BBC Studios Productions Australia. Executive producers are Gavin O’Grady, Petra Fried, Wim De Greef and Jackson.
Starr is coming off a five season run on Amazon Prime Video’s “The Boys,” which will air its final season in April. He recently wrapped production on Neon’s “Samo Lives,” in which he will play Andy Warhol. His other credits include Netflix’s “Banshee,” Amazon’s “G20,” “Cobweb” and “American Gothic.” He also recently cameoed on Apple TV’s Seth Rogen comedy “The Studio,” playing a fictionalized version of himself.
Deadline broke the news.
