EXCLUSIVE: Independent Artist Group has signed director and producer Anthony Hemingway, along with his production company Anthony Hemingway Productions.
An Emmy, Golden Globe, and NAACP Image Award winner, Hemingway most recently directed the pilot for CBS’s #1 new series Boston Blue, starring Donnie Wahlberg and Sonequa Martin-Green, where he’s also an executive producer. A spin-off of Blue Bloods, the show premiered in October and has been renewed for a second season.
Hemingway also directed multiple episodes, including four of the first season, and executive produces All’s Fair, the Ryan Murphy legal drama starring Naomi Watts, Teyana Taylor, Ed O’Neill, Glenn Close, Sarah Paulson, and Kim Kardashian, which has been a ratings hit, achieving the biggest debut for a scripted Hulu original in three years.
Previously, Hemingway helmed the pilot of the CBS series True Lies, and the pilot of Starz’s Power Book II: Ghost, having directed many episodes within the broader Power franchise. His other recent directing and executive producing credits include Mara Brock Akil’s Judy Blume adaptation Forever for Netflix (a #1 debut series), and the Hulu miniseries Washington Black.
Hemingway’s earlier work includes directing for HBO’s landmark series The Wire, for which he received an AFI Award. Among his other most acclaimed projects are the Nat Geo miniseries Genius: Aretha and FX’s The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story, which earned him an Emmy for Outstanding Limited Series, a Golden Globe for Best Miniseries or Television Film, a BAFTA TV Award for Best International Program, a PGA David L. Wolper Award for Outstanding Producer of Long-Form Television, an NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Television Movie, Limited-Series or Dramatic Special, and an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Directing for a Limited Series, Movie or Dramatic Special.
Hemingway also directed and executive produced WGN’s period drama Underground about the heroes of the Underground Railroad. In film, he’s best known for directing the 20th Century Fox title Red Tails, which starred Terrance Howard, Cuba Gooding Jr., Bryan Cranston and David Oyelowo.
