As we eagerly await GTA 6's marketing push to kick off, Grand Theft Auto 5 and GTA Online continue to make millions of dollars each month, so it's not surprising to see Take-Two push to consolidate multiplayer mods around FiveM, the platform it acquired back in 2023.

The latest blow to GTA 5's vibrant modding community comes through the announcement of RAGE:MP shutting down operations as soon as 1st June, 2026: "In accordance with that policy, and at Take-Two's request, RAGE:MP will begin a structured shutdown process. We are asking all server owners to wind down their operations and migrate to FiveM."

It's a bit sudden, but not entirely unpredictable. Take-Two and Rockstar have been quite vocal in the past about wanting to get all of GTA 5 and Online's modding under one roof, with Rockstar-approved mod tools being rolled out too.

Players outside the "public server listing" will have a bit more time to sort out and migrate their community servers though: "All remaining community servers are expected to cease operations by August 31, 2026. By that time, community servers must have migrated." RAGE:MP's game, server toolkit, and backend infrastructure will no longer be available after that date.

"We know this is tough news for everyone - both developers and players. As FiveM is now Rockstar Games' official platform for modding-based experiences, we've done our best to give you extra time to move your servers to their new home, and we will continue to do everything we can to make the switch over as smooth as possible," the official post by the RAGE:MP team added before thanking everyone for the time and effort put into the platform over the years.
