Anime tactics game Girls' Frontline 2: Exilium has landed on PC

2 weeks ago 4

When the cold, steely world of the far future has been plunged into perma-war, and hopes for humanity to return to some semblance of order and freedom have dwindled, who do we turn to in our darkest hour? Why, a squad of sassy, stylishly clad anime android girls obviously. With Girls' Frontline 2: Exilium, the hit turn-based mobile tactics game comes to PC for the first time, putting players back in the role of the 'Commander' as you lead the T-Dolls into battle.

10 years after the events of the original game, with the rogue AI Sangvis Ferri defeated, the Commander severs ties with G&K, the shady private military corporation from the first game. With a squadron of their most trusted T-Dolls, the Commander ventures into the irradiated wastes of the contamination zones in search of solo fortune, but an ambush during a seemingly routine mission, pulls you into a whole new chapter of combat and conspiracy.

Along with the new story, the first thing you'll notice about Girls' Frontline 2 is that it's a fully 3D-rendered sequel. The stylings of the original have been replaced with a darker, more adult anime aesthetic, while the battlefields now resemble PC tactics classics like XCOM 2 or Mutant Year Zero. This new perspective enables a deeper combat system, with your squad of anime androids being split into the roles of Sentinel, Vanguard, Bulwark, and Support. Lay down suppressing fire, dish out burst damage on the move, and heal up those tanks soaking up damage on your frontline, as you embark on a gauntlet of missions that will test your tactical mettle. You'll need to use the battlefield too, darting between cover and seeking out the high ground as you look to get every advantage possible over the enemy.

But outside of battle, even androids need a little R&R. Kit your T-Dolls out in the highest fashions of the war-torn future by adding accessories to their weapons, which you can then display in the gallery between missions. You can also kick back with the T-Dolls in their fully 3D dormitories, and see them go about their day-to-day routines as they relax between missions. Make the most of this cosy downtime, because there'll be no time for the nicer things in life once you're back out there on the battlefield.

As you progress and upgrade your T-Dolls through a rich RPG-like progression system, you'll get to learn more about them as you unlock memories, voice lines, and archival information that reveals new information about their past. Deepen your affinity with your Dolls by giving them gifts, and eventually you'll get rewarded with an exclusive Covenant Projection—a special cutscene giving you some insight into that character.
