Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp Complete players have discovered a hidden mechanic behind wearable animal companions that opens up a whole new way to decorate. The cozy mobile spin-off game from the Animal Crossing franchise has thousands of decorative items like furniture, outdoor decor, and many more. It turns out that the title had even more decor options available to players that were hidden in plain sight.

One of this month's special gacha "fortune cookies" is Papi's Winter-Bird Cookie, which has several cute bird-themed furniture items. Among these items are a "hat" in the form of two adorable white birds that sit on players' (or villagers') heads, and a "perched chickadee" that can sit on the player's arm. While these are adorable additions to any outfit, Reddit user Hotdogggbuns has discovered that the perched animals can be placed on the ground as decorations.

Players Scour The Complete Catalogue For More Animals For Decoration

The Redditor shared additional screenshots in the comments, showing how they used the bird outfit pieces to add "impeccable vibes" to their camp design. They also added a squirrel to their campsite, placing it next to Redd and making it seem like the sly fox is shooing the critter away. Other players have followed suit and added another animal from the catalog, a perched hawk. Kindacool234 placed the squirrel and hawk together, making them look like they were "having an animal playdate."

Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp Highlights A Major Issue With New Horizons’ Insufferable Villagers

Pocket Camp has shown that the Animal Crossing series needs to improve its villagers in the next mainline game, since New Horizons has fallen flat.

All it takes to place down animals as decor is to navigate to the clothing tab while in "design" mode, which allows players to place other articles of clothing, as well as their little handheld critters. Reddit user elder_flowers points out that many other types of items can be placed down as well, including "gifts, the plates with food, stuffies and dolls," making decorating even more versatile in the mobile Animal Crossing title.

Our Take: After Seven Years And Counting, Animal Crossing Pocket Camp Continues To Surprise And Delight

This Feature In Animal Crossing Pocket Camp Is Adorable

As soon as I found out I could place my extra perched birds as "decor" in my campsite, I had to rush to the app to try it. I was even more delighted when I realized that I could place the bird on top of a table. It's wonderful that even after seven years (and counting), first as a free-to-play app and then as a paid version, Pocket Camp continues to delight and bring this much joy to players.

Many fans speculate that with the recent announcement of the Nintendo Switch 2 and the end of an era for Pocket Camp, the announcement of a new Animal Crossing game might not be too far behind. I just hope that Nintendo takes what they learned from Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp and applies it to the next installment of the beloved franchise.
