An Azure outage is affecting Microsoft 365, Xbox and Minecraft

Microsoft’s Azure cloud service is experiencing an outage that appears to have hit Microsoft 365 , Xbox and Minecraft. All three show spikes in outage reports on DownDetector around 12PM ET, and the Azure status page indicates Microsoft is working on deploying fixes to address the issue.

In its most recent Azure status update as of 1:53PM ET, Microsoft says that its “initiated the deployment of our ‘last known good configuration,’” but has run into delays “due to protective blocks” put in place to protect Azure Front Door. “Once the rollout is complete, we will begin recovering nodes and re-routing traffic through healthy nodes to accelerate recovery.” The company has so far not been able to provide an estimate as to when the entire outage will be resolved, however.

That rerouting strategy matches what the company shared on the Microsoft 365 Status account on X. Along with Microsoft’s productivity apps, users on Reddit have also reported issues loading Game Pass on Xbox consoles. The outage has also appeared to affect Microsoft support pages used to communicate issues. Microsoft’s Xbox Support site currently won’t load at all.

A Microsoft spokesperson provided the following statement to Engadget about its Azure issues:

We are working to address an issue affecting Azure Front Door that is impacting the availability of some services. Customers should continue to check their Service Health Alerts and the latest update on this issue can be found on the Azure status page.

At least so far, the Azure outage pale in comparison to Amazon Web Services outage that occurred last week. Amazon’s outage kept popular apps and services offline for hours.

Update, October 29, 3:09PM ET: Added latest Azure status update to article along with a statement from Microsoft.
