FOX’s medical drama series Doc episode 5 will explore more of Amy’s emotional side. The new series, starring Molly Parker as doctor Amy Larsen, puts a twist on the medical drama format, as Amy is a car crash survivor who lost years of memories in the event. The show follows Amy as she not only helps patients on a day-to-day basis, but also attempts to piece her life back together one step at a time.
ScreenRant is happy to present a clip from FOX’s Doc. In the clip, Amy Larsen–who is based on a real person–visits the room of her deceased son Danny for the first time since his death. Check out the clip below, courtesy of Sony Pictures Television and FOX, and get ready to watch the latest episode of Doc, which airs tonight at 9pm.
Why Seeing Danny’s Room Could Be The Best Thing For Amy’s Character Arc
Some of Doc’s early reviews flagged Amy as a cold or unfeeling character, but those comments may have been premature. Doc episode 4 began to humanize Amy by revealing the details of Danny’s death and more deeply exploring how it affected her and her husband. The clip above promises that the creatives behind Doc are continuing to pull on that thread and give audiences even more of a look at Amy’s softer and more vulnerable side.
The episode 4 reveals that Danny’s parents are both at fault in his death, and that Amy grieved harder than Michael over the loss of their son, add depth and purpose to things like Amy’s distrust of doctors and her general demeanor. Amy physically visiting Danny’s room could start an even deeper exploration of her state of mind, and further recontextualize her personality. Plus, Katie’s statement to Amy about the museum-like quality of Danny’s room, “I’m not sure dad could face it alone,” drives the point home to Amy that her family has been truly struggling.
Doc’s massive viewership increase is proof that the show has captured audiences around the country, and a deeper look at Amy’s vulnerability is a great way to even further engage viewers. Amy’s personality shouldn’t necessarily change, but viewers who know the context beneath her actions are more likely to feel like they’re on her side through the course of the series. With more episodes to come in the season, there will be plenty of opportunities to see how spending time in Danny’s room comes to affect Amy and her family.
