American Bitcoin president Matt Prusak jumps ship to Giga Energy as CFO

Matt Prusak is leaving his role as president and interim CFO of American Bitcoin Corp to join Giga Energy as chief business officer and interim CFO, effective August 4. The move marks a notable executive departure from one of the most politically connected Bitcoin mining operations in the US.

American Bitcoin, which trades on the Nasdaq under the ticker ABTC, counts Eric Trump as co-founder and chief strategy officer. Eric Trump and Donald Trump Jr. hold 20% ownership of the company. Prusak’s exit comes at a time when the firm has built a corporate treasury exceeding 8,000 BTC.

Why Giga Energy matters

Giga Energy, headquartered in Houston, builds modular power infrastructure and containerized solutions designed for Bitcoin mining operations.

Giga isn’t just a Bitcoin mining infrastructure play anymore. The company has over 500 MW of AI-capable data center capacity currently under development, and it has historically deployed infrastructure supporting more than 6.5 GW of power capacity.

Prusak’s background makes the hire look deliberate rather than opportunistic. Before American Bitcoin, he held roles at Ionic Digital and US Bitcoin Corp.

What American Bitcoin loses

Losing both your president and interim CFO in a single departure is not ideal, even if your treasury is stacked with over 8,000 BTC. American Bitcoin has not announced any immediate changes to its leadership structure or strategic direction following Prusak’s exit.

The bigger picture: power is the new moat

Companies like Core Scientific pivoted from pure Bitcoin mining to hosting AI workloads. Hut 8 merged with US Bitcoin Corp (one of Prusak’s former employers) to build a diversified compute platform.

Giga Energy’s model of deploying modular, containerized power solutions gives it flexibility that traditional data center developers lack. Instead of spending years permitting and building a massive facility, modular infrastructure can be deployed to stranded energy assets, flare gas sites, or behind-the-meter locations where grid power is either unavailable or uneconomical.

The risk for Giga Energy is execution. Developing 500 MW of AI-capable data center capacity requires significant capital expenditure, long lead times on electrical equipment, and the ability to secure power purchase agreements at rates that make the math work.
